"Whitewash County" as written by Elton John and Bernard J.p. Taupin....
Tonight it's hot down here
I can almost smell the rain
And I can almost taste the fear
Behind your name
Fans turning on the ceiling
I feel sticky as a chili dog
White boys howling in the evening
On that hollow log

Tall tales down the river
Say we aim to bury the truth
But the right hand just delivered
The devil in a suit

And he talks big in Whitewash County
Talks sweet as sugar cane
Got a past that's filled with lightning
Got a future filled with rain

Bug buzzing in an empty glass
Fiddle scratching some lazy tune
We're just some place that history passed
New dust, new broom
And it's a high hot buttered moon
He's got a shiny new wax face
Swears the South's gonna rise again soon
All over the place

Rain down on Whitewash County
Smell the air coming up the line
Well you've changed your face so often
But you never change your mind

General Comment"Tall tales down the river
Say we aim to bury the truth"
I belive EJ is saying some truths about deep southerners, real deap, as I am from the south too.
Okay here we go, aim to bury the truth, typical southeren good old boy, nothings ever wrong "talks sweet as sugar cane", uh hello, mentality, stuffing of feelings, if you have seen the movie Prince of Tides with Nick Nolte...you'll know what i am getting at about buring the truth...

"He's got a shiny new wax face" he put on a new face to bury the truth of his past.
    denial.

because of the above, ie "Past filled with lightening" he has a future filled with rain" ie his past will most definelty catch up with him and it wont be pretty....

"But you never changed your mind."
He cant change, he does not have the tools, or chooses not to use them, thus he stays
the same to keep doing the bad he's doing.

    Nice writing Bernie

"We're just some place historys past" yip, thats the south alright.

"Well you've changed your face so often, but you never changed your mind."
The southern way is to be 2 faced in the company your with so as not to unbury the truths,
when in rome type deal, he will not stand up for himself... because if the spot light is on
him, then its on his past present and future, and he has to hide what he's about, behind closed
    doors!
