Oh gypsy rose
I will wait for your sun to shine
Now you've got me goin'
Somewhere no one could find

Oh in my life
It's the world that makes me cry

Oh summer day
Go back home
Give your body away

Milky arms and legs
Wrap around this neglected frame

And the world will make you cry
Yeah the world won't tell you why
But this world won't make you die
'Cause I loved you right

Oh gypsy rose
You got me swallowed up in your streets
Bring your food, money, shoes
Just to lie here with you 'neath your sheets

I see hope in your life
It's the world that makes you cry

Rose, I got no friends
I got no kids and I don't got kin
My one salvation
Is the warmth of your skin

And this world will make you cry
Yeah the world will make you lie
Oh the world will suck you dry
Oh but I loved you right

Oh summer day
Go back home
give your body away

And when I wake
You'll have saved my life

General CommentThis is a kick-ass song! I love the vocal style and the bluegrass guitar. It sounds to me like it's about a town & he anthromorphisises it to sound like a woman- not sure though. Can't believe there aren't more comments about this album- it's a fantastic record

General Commentas taken from ben's "daytrotter sessions" -

"This is a sad song about a lonely man who has nothing in his life except this prostitute, Gypsy Rose... He visits her every Monday morning... brings her clothes and money and food.... puts everything he has in this relationship that's going nowhere."
