"He Wasn't There" as written by Gregory Allen Kurstin and Lily Allen....
He wasn't there
When I needed him
No
He was never around
His reputation
Was preceding him
And he was out
On the town
It didn't matter
If he let me down
I didn't care
About the lies
Now all I knew
Was that
He loved me
Very much
He was my hero
In disguise

I'm so pleased
I never gave up
On him
Oh well
You wouldn't believe
Some of the things
That he did
And everyone
Said you
Have to give him
Some time
And I'm glad
That I gave it
To him
Cause now
Everything's fine

Now you see
I never thought
You'd be
A constant person
In my life
And I don't think
That you would be
If you'd
Save stayed
With your ex wife
I know you
Wouldn't but
There is no need
No need
To apologise
Because I know
You'll always
Love me
Very much
You are my hero
In disguise

I'm so pleased
I never gave up
On him
Oh
Well
You wouldn't believe
Some of the things
That he did
And everyone said you
Have to give him
Some time
And I'm glad
That I gave it to him
Cause now
Everything's fine

You might have
Thought you
Didn't teach me much
But you
Taught me
Right from wrong
And it was
When you didn't keep
In touch
Well it taught me
To be strong
And just in case
You ever thought
I would
I wouldn't change you
For the world
Because I know
You'll always
Love me
Very much
I'll always be
You're little girl

I'm so pleased
I never gave up
On him
Oh
Well you
Wouldn't believe
Some of the things
That he did
And everyone
Said you
Have to give him
Some time
And I'm glad
That I gave it
To him
Cause now
Everything's fine

General CommentFor sure about her Dad. If it were about a relationship... well, that'd just be gross.

General CommentI just read somewhere that she did an interview where she talks about hating her father and how she never wants to patch things up with him. So perhaps this song is fantastically executed sarcasm?

General CommentThe more I listen to it, the more I am sure that it's incredibly sarcastic towards her father. Even the music sets up this hokey 50s vibe like everything is all Leave It To Beaver.

General Commenti absolutely love this song. one of my favorites off
the album xD i can't wait till tuesday :p

nothing's stopping me form buying that album. haha.

anyways, i think the song is pretty obvious.

he hurt her alot -> she
    lost hope ->everyone told her
to give him time -> she did so ->
they lived happily ever after :p

General Commentthis song is definitely about her dad.

"i'll always be your little girl." if that's about a relationship, then it's a pretty weird one.
"you taught me right from wrong"
    "you're my hero in disguise"
"i don't think you would be if you'd stayed with your ex-wife"

    definitely about her dad.

I didn't even think about it being about her dad, but it makes much more sense and also Chinese is about her mama.

    General Commentok honestly, I think its about God;
its right after her song 'Him' on the album, which is about God -- look at these lines:

I'm so pleased I never gave up on him
Oh well you wouldn't believe some of the things that he did
And everyone said you have to give him some time
And I'm glad that I gave it to him cause now everything's fine

About being a non-believer, she at first didn't believe in him, but everyone told her to 'give him some time'

    Lily Allen says:

You might have thought you didn't teach me much
But you taught me right from wrong
And it was when you didn't keep in touch
Well it taught me to be strong

talks about God 'not keeping in touch' but it teaches her to be strong

the ex-wife part is sort of confusing, though. . .

My OpinionI must agree with kelseyfro7. When she sings this song, all i hear is sarcasm...

Specially the part "And I'm glad that I gave it to him cause now everything's fine" - for me it works more or less like "yeah, right, he was never there and did things you wouldn't believe, but all i have to do is give him some time and everything will be perfect?"
