Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Have you ever wanted to disappear
And join a monastery
Go out and preach on Manic Street?
Who will I be when I wake up next to a stranger
On a passenger plane?
(Passenger plane)
Oh,
Permanent jet lag
Please take me back (please take be back)
Please take be back
(Oh) I'm a stray dog sick
Please let me in (please let me in)
The mad keys tripping
Singing vows before we exchange smoke rings
Give me a pen
Call me Mr. Benzedrine
But don't let the doctor in
I wanna blow off steam and
Call me Mr. Benzedrine (Mr. Benzedrine)
But don't let the doctor, don't let the doctor in
It feels like fourteen karats but no clarity
When I look at the man who would be king
The man who would be king goes to the
Desert to sing war his dad rehearsed
Came back with flags on coffins and said
We won, oh, we won
Permanent jet lag
Please take me back (please take be back)
Please take be back
(Oh) I'm a stray dog sick
Please let me in (please let me in)
The mad keys tripping
Singing vows before we exchange smoke rings
Give me a pen
Call me Mr. Benzedrine
But don't let the doctor in
I wanna blow off steam and
Call me Mr. Benzedrine (Mr. Benzedrine)
But don't let the doctor, don't let the doctor in
Benzedrine
My, my, my Benzedrine
My Benzedrine now
My Benzedrine now
Only one more thing and that is the rest of the proof
Is on the television, on the
Call me Mr. Benzedrine
But don't let the doctor in
I wanna blow off steam and
Call me Mr. Benzedrine (Mr. Benzedrine)
But don't let the doctor, don't let the doctor in
Have you ever wanted to disappear?
It's not me, it's you
Actually, it's the taxidermy of you and me
Untie the balloons from around my neck and ground me
I'm just a racehorse on the track
Send me back to the glue factory
Always thought I'd float away
And never come back
But I've got enough miles on my card
To fly the boys home on my own
But you know me: I like being all alone
And keeping you all alone
And the charts are boring
And the kids are snoring
And the eagles in a sling
You say you're not listening
And I said I'm wishing
And I said, I said
And join a monastery
Go out and preach on Manic Street?
Who will I be when I wake up next to a stranger

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
'actually, it's the taxidermy of you and me'
does pete not know what taxidermy means? (stuffed animals) doesn't seem to make much sense, and it wouldn't be the first time he's used a word wrongly....
yeah, I'm not sure it makes a whole lot of sense either. though, apparently taxidermy is Greek for "the arrangement in the skin" or something. so maybe it could be about how... okay, yeah. I got nothing. haha.
"It's not me, it's you. Actually, it's the taxidermy of you and me."<br /> This sounds like he is describing what is wrong with a relationship as a famous break-up line is it's not you, it's me, but he reversed that. Then when he says it's actually the taxidermy of you and me I think he means that the problem isn't either of them, it's that while trying to keep up the outer appearance of their relationship they took out all of the emotion and inner beauty because in taxidermy you remove all of the insides of an animal in order to preserve it's outer appearance. Thats my take on this line, hope that made sense to you.
maybe by taxidermy he means...<br /> like its not real.<br /> like you can make it look legit but it never will be.<br /> so kind of like their relationship isn't as together as they'd hoped or thought or what other people think it is.<br /> like,<br /> have you ever noticed how real and alive(but still) taxidermists can make the animals look?<br /> but they're not.<br /> catch my drift?
I agree with Shae2Saturn and Ifritx111. I think this does make sense and that Pete did know what he was talking about, about a taxidermy being false and fake.<br /> However, I think also that "The taxidermy of you and me" could be the memories of whoever the you and me are. Like, the taxidermy would be what is left of them, the outside of their relationship; the image, with none of the deep proper stuff left.
Yea I agree with the others, he means the relationship is dead, but they've been keeping up appearances for the sake of the media of whatever.
i'm sorry to sound like one of those crazy people that stand up for the singers - because that is totally not me - but pete doesn't say anything in his lyrics that have no meaning. he's ridiculously intelligent and a brilliant writer, and for the love of god, i'm sure he knows what "taxidermy" mean, you're just not ingenious enough to figure out what he's saying with that metaphor.
Taxidermy- someone who stuffs dead animals.<br /> If you've heard GINASFS, then it makes more sense.<br /> People are filling a dead relationship with meaningless things.
"last seen wearing"-<br /> <br /> Pete knows what taxidermy means; you don't.
I agree with iAMtheDREAMER, Pete seems to be someone who pays special attention to every word, really picky..<br /> I don't think he picks a word if he doesn't know what it means, actually I believe he likes to play with words and their multiple meanings, that's why his songs have so many ways to be interpreted, and that's why I like this band..<br /> <br /> English is not my native language, so I have to work really hard to get to understand what their songs are talking about!
<br /> I think ifritx111 is right...<br /> <br /> Pete is always pretty clever with how he writes Fall Out Boy's songs. Normally it's extremely hard to make sense of them without thinking for a long time about them.<br />
"It wouldn't be the first time he's used a word wrongly"?<br /> "Wrongly"?<br /> <br /> lol. i smell the pungent aroma of hypocrisy.
