Initially they rationalized with futile speculations
Which brought about their ultimately fatal calculations
They sewed their own eyes shut
To protect them from the light
Closed the doorway of their minds
Barred and sealed it tight
Their foolish hearts were darkened
Their vacant minds deceived
The lies that they exchanged for truth
Became all that they believed
They exchanged the incorruptible
For the image of fallen man
Worshiped creature rather than creator
The image rather than his hand

The heavens wait in silence
For the coming of the end
As man perfects his own imperfection
Destruction closes in

In the grave they chose to make their beds
Now all that they've created
Comes crashing down, down, down upon their heads
Death is waiting

General CommentThis song is describing the spiritual battle humans encounter in their lives, and depicting the way it will end for those who choose to close out the truth.

So many people are quick to criticize Christianity and its associated beliefs without truly understanding what they are speaking of. Most Christians went to public school, such as myself, so I know a lot about Christianity and other beliefs such as Evolution. This allows me to make a decision based on information from different viewpoints. However, most people who believe in Evolution know little to nothing about Christianity, and choose to call it ignorant and stupid without even realizing what they are truly criticizing.

This is what the song is all about. People closing out the truth and exchanging it for lies that they accept as truth.

General CommentThis song tells a story of the human race turning away from their God,"sewing their eyes shut to hide from the light". It may be referring to the scientific revolution and how it was a step towards secularism --- science being the creation of man. The only Biblical similarity I can find is that of Sodom and Gomorrah turning their backs on God, and ultimately being destroyed.

General CommentThis song is based on the book of Romans Chapter 1
21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

This could be a reference to the Towel of Babel. Erected by men who professed themselves wise and able to literally reach the heavens and God if they wanted to. God crushed their pride.

My InterpretationI believe this song is about the progression of men turning away from their Creator. Many people choose to turn the cold shoulder to God and Christianity. In other words, they close their eyes so they don't see the light (of God) and close their minds (to Christianity).

Instead, they are led on by worldly things and brainwashed by today's secular culture. They idolize men instead of God ("...exchanged the incorruptible/for the image of fallen men"). They believe the lies that are spoonfed to them instead of the Truth of God's Word. Eventually, these lies are the only things that they believe and even want to hear; all differing opinions are shut out.

I especially like the part that is sung (not screamed). "The heavens wait in silence/For the coming of the end/As man perfects his own imperfection/Destruction closes in." This should be a wake up call. God is watching the world destroy itself. He watches as man perfects his imperfections, attempting to play God. But all the while, they are destroying themselves but don't know it because they believe all their own lies and shun differing opinions.

But in the end, what was it for? What did they spend their life doing? They dug their own graves to rot in. Everything that they made comes crashing down on them, because what they have made is not eternal. All their self-created lies and "perfect imperfections" has led them to 6 feet under, and no farther. Death is waiting for those men; just as the heavens are silently watching the world destroy itself, so is the devil.

My Interpretation"They sewed their own eyes shut
To protect them from the light" the light of their wrong ways

    "They exchanged the incorruptible
For the image of fallen man" God for idols
