The police high beam froze her perfect face
In white glow for a while
The politburo's on high alert
And her name showed up on file
There's trouble with their war effort
And she's been speaking out
Checkpoint Charlie's radioing in
She's compromised in doubt
There's trouble with the war effort and she's crossed the party line
You were so pretty in the days you spoke your mind

You were so pretty oh
And you were so pretty oh oh oh
Well I don't know...

The files have been filled
The regime won't be undermined
You were so pretty in the days you spoke your mind

Quiet now don't make a sound
The system shut us down now we find each other in the underground
She had the voice once of the people
now she's timid as a mouse
I would kiss you on the mouth in a safe house

Cause you were so pretty oh
hiding out
hiding out
Cause you were so pretty oh
hiding out
hiding out
Walk on by
hiding out
hiding out
Walk on by
She's a red star
She's a red star

Tell me how did you let them in
We were silent secret agents
But the resistance is wearing thin
Dissent is now illegal
She must pay the consequence
In this thriller mystery baby
You are my suspense

Cause you were so pretty oh
hiding out
hiding out
Cause you were so pretty oh
hiding out
hiding out
Walk on by
hiding out
hiding out
Walk on by
She's a red star
She's a red star

You've come so far to back down now...

General CommentThis song is amazing it is referring to the current way of life in America the current banns on free speech which is now a hate crime, and then called a Enemy Combatant to then be put in a terrorist watch list for speaking out. Then 2nd part about the system it reminds me of a couple movies Equilibrium, V for Vendetta, and then the book and movie of 1984 George Orwell they all have a underground safe house to meet
this song shows that i think third eye blind has scene the stages of control in this world that is holding us back from or freedom. That only way is by Dissenting the telling truth and showing the lies. but now we are force not to think outrageously and believe whats put in front of us cause that's the truth.

"In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act." George Orwell

"The bigger the lie, the more people will believe it" Nazi party

General CommentThis is about people betraying their beliefs for peace of mind and safety. I think the title is maybe a reference to Communism. This person believed we should all live equally, but betrayed those beliefs out of fear of the government.

General CommentI personally think that this "she" that Stephan's talking about it is America, and I think he's talking about how America's changed and doesn't say what it means for fear of its global repercussions, when it was its outspoken people with the desire to not be tamed that originally won us the freedom to be Americans in the first place. I love Third Eye Blind, one of my favorite bands, got a tattoo of "deeper than bones" on my shoulder. I'm so glad they're back.

General CommentI'm just gonna throw this idea out there. I read some of the lines, but this is just an idea.
Maybe possibly the song is about Anti War Protesting and the government taking away rights, and lablein ppl as terrorists.

General CommentI think this song is, like many, a political song in disguise. or maybe he is talking about both the US and a girl. possibly a tale about how a boy and a girl spoke out against their government where dissent is illegal and it is about how they are trying to escape the police/FBI/whatever and so it's kind of romantic at the same time? or maybe it is just political lol....
