So you said you've been a far whisper
but I say I can hear you clearly boy
no matter what you do

You are always so much louder than me
you take up lots of space
taking mine away

But you don't seem to mind
so don't be surprised to hear
that I don't think you're kind

I have you on my mind
when I think of things I dislike
no matter what you do
I don't want to become like you

The sea couldn't pull me in
and so can't you
though you think you do

And I don't tell the truth
cause sometimes, you know
it takes a little while
till the words are found
that match my sound

Just because I'm slow
doesn't mean to go
just as far till I let you know
to stop to quit to leave to cease

You think my life's too much about things I don't like
I complain too much, nurture my anger too much
but hear what I tell you, boy
I can just as well undress
leave all this mess

It's not that I have chosen
the world that I live in
the only thing I chose is
to not be too happy
when things aren't like that

My hours of bliss
are there, be sure
but I choose carefully
with whom to share

So boy, beware
cause all I got for you
is my anger, my contempt

Have you ever spent a thought or two
on things not concerning you
what you call pain
is a vain attempt
to get all the attention needed
to nurture your ego
nurture your ego

But I'm not a mother
no, I'm not a mother
go find yourself someone other

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
