Distinctions of courage, only cowards sing at night
Human virtue affirmed, we are ennobled by our suffering
I don't believe in exceptionalism
I still have hope for the future

Come back home Johnny
Come back home Johnny
Come back home from Vietnam

Without resolve you are self-assured
With eager anticipation you are ready for a war
Faith in your fathers, honor thy family
I hold no regard. I am unapologetic

Come back home Johnny
Come back home Johnny
Come back home from Vietnam

Your war is over
Your war is over
Your war is over... Johnny

General CommentI might be completely wrong but I think this song is about John McCain.

    "Johnny"
    "Veitnam"
"Faith in you fathers" (McCain wrote a book called 'Faith of my Fathers')

"Come back home" and "Your war is over" probably refer to the fact that McCain never stops talking about how he was a POW....it's OVER, stop talking about it!

General CommentI'm so glad that the election is over and we can stop hearing about the long list of things that John McCain didn't have while he was in Vietnam, regardless of how many house he has now.
I don't believe in exceptionalism either.
