"Strangers" as written by and William Roy Francis....
she slams the door then hitched a ride
her sights set on intent to die
there's no forgiveness in living
he picks her up and ties the rope so tight
her cuffs are sweling black and blue
pinching and bleeding

she lifts the mask and screams
where have you been?
i wanna die, i wanna die
i am the willing
he says you're wrong don't lie to me
i've picked you up to you free
it's just your body i'm stealing

we fall, we fall in love
with strangers killing time
we fall, we fall in love
with strangers in the night

so how's the hour
say your prayers and goodbyes
to a god who doesn't care
who doesn't mind

My Interpretation"she slams the door then hitched a ride
her sights set on intent to die
    there's no forgiveness in living
he picks her up and ties the rope so tight
her cuffs are sweling black and blue
    pinching and bleeding"

The girl in this story is obviously fed up with something that's happened in her life, and in frustration slams the door. In a suicidal mindstate, and a suicide plan that has been planned out ahead of time, she goes on with the first step and hitches a ride from a complete stranger to somewhere she could carry the action out. The man was obviously the wrong person to kill herself in front of, and also has a twisted mind, so he picks her up and ties her up extremely tight.

"she lifts the mask and screams
    where have you been?
i wanna die, i wanna die
    i am the willing
he says you're wrong don't lie to me
i've picked you up to you free
it's just your body i'm stealing"

The man was most likely a criminal of sorts (Most likely a rapist). She was probably expecting him to kill her off somehow if her plans failed, but he has much better plans in store for them. So he tells her "you're wrong, you don't want this" and precedes to rape her in a masochistic fashion, and according to the moans and screams of pain and pleasure, she enjoys it.

"we fall, we fall in love
    with strangers killing time
we fall, we fall in love
    with strangers in the night"

She falls in love with the rapist (Stockholm syndrome) and has no idea who he even is. It took place during nightfall, which is perfect for various wrongdoings such as rape and suicide.

    "so how's the hour
    say your prayers and goodbyes
to a god who doesn't care
    who doesn't mind"

The girl is still done with life and still wants death. Even moreso now that she has fallen in love with someone she will potentially never see again and never truly know, making her already depressing mindstate worse. She most likely goes through with it, because if "god minded", why would he let such a despairing event happen? So it was the hour she would kill herself, and said her final goodbyes.

It's just in my own perspective. Even if its not what the song meant, it would make for an interesting book. But I think thats what it ultimately means.

General CommentHeard this on a CD with Rock Sound and was the only track I liked! I havent been keen on Aiden stuff but this song is fab, love the retro-y/80s/electro sound and also on the Saw 5 soundtrack I believe. Is it there a known story behind it? Will look into more William Control tracks.

Song MeaningThe whole album is the concept of this person.. William Control. wiL spent a lot of time in the dark areas of London, in fetish clubs etc, whilst working on this album, trying to understand William Control. i think the album is supposed to show how wiL looks at the world, and show everything that he believes is fucked up about it. the individual songs aren't really hard to work out wot they mean. this is two people who don't know each other, taking part in some sadistic violent sexual activity.

This sounds as though it's implying necrophelia.

General CommentI think it's a story about how the girl goes out to end her old life and start anew, and hitches a ride with the wrong person who beats and maims and uses her body, and she loves it. She finds out she's a massive masochist, and, although in the beginning she wants to die and be gone and start a new life, she can't help but fall in love with this stranger who gave her pain.

As for deeper meaning, I think wiL's trying to convey that we all can't help but love the pain, if not for the enjoyment value but because pain sets you apart and makes you different. The pain is strange and not what we're used to, but that the pain makes us who we are.

General CommentFor some reason the line "where have you been?" gives me the impression that the two "strangers" aren't strangers at all. She was waiting for him to pick her up.
I think that they know each other, but for this one night they are playing the part of strangers. Maybe it's even a sexual role play.
It also may imply that even though they know each other, they are still emotionally strangers.
Or maybe they are so freaky and out there they are strange to everyone around them. Tey are compatible in their bizzarness. Compatible in the fact that they hate this world and they want to die.
Strangers kind of gives me a Marylin Manson vibe from the lyrics (I'm in no way saying Control and Manson are copies or what not though). The "If I Was Your Vampire" song comes to mind. How Manson described "Vampire" I find is also very fitting for this song: it's about loving so much that you want to escape the world together, you do this by killing each other "but I'll kill you first because I don't trust you"
This song makes me think that maybe these two planned to die together, but the guy is teasing her saying "you might say you want to die, but I think your lying, so I'm going to kill you first"....after they have sex of course.
