"Cemetary Gates" as written by and Vincent Paul/abbott Abbott....
Reverend, reverend,
Is this a conspiracy?
Crucified for no sins
No revenge... beneath me.
Lost within my plans for life,
It all seems so unreal.
I'm a man cut in half in this world,
Left in my misery.

The reverend he turned to me
Without a tear in his eyes.
It's nothing new for him to see,
I didn't ask him why.
I will remember...
The love our souls had sworn to make.
Now I watch the falling rain
All my mind can see now is your (face).

Well I guess
You took my youth
And gave it all away.
Like the birth of a new found joy,
This love would end in rage...
And when she died
I couldn't cry,
The pride within my soul.
You left me incomplete
All alone as the memories now unfold.

Believe the word.
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates.

Sometimes when I'm alone,
I wonder aloud,
If you're watching over me
Some place far abound.
I must reverse my life
I can't live in the past.
Then set my soul free,
Belong to me at last.

Through all those complex years
I thought I was alone.
I didn't care to look around
And make this world my own
And when she dies
I should've cried and spared myself some pain.
You left me incomplete,
All alone as the memories still remain.

The way we were,
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain.
Believe the word,
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates

The way we were,
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain.
Believe the word,
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery

General CommentI have been listening to this song a LOT lately
Loss ,i guess is the main theme and perhaps Phil is trying to figure his own life out in the process.

My OpinionHey CoreyGreen, this song isnt about Darrel at all. if you are talking about his death, this song was released way before his death. the song is about losing a person that they care about and wanting to do anything to be with them. the band has never released a specific person that this song is about

My InterpretationI think this song could apply to anyone who has had someone close to them pass away. The first time I heard this song was at a Dime Bag tribute and a local band knocked it out of the part. Love this song. My mother and I have had a very dysfunctional relationship and she is now in hospice care and her end is near. While I love her very much, as she is my mother, there are also other feelings and this song addresses some of those feelings. I will cry at her funeral, but I'm not sure why. For her loss, or for the loss of all the answers she could have given me if she would have just been a stand up parent. My biggest fear is that she is going to go, and I am going to be left living the rest of my life feeling like I'm nothing because that's what my mother thought of me and treated me like. Everytime I hear this song, I think of her and cry. I will miss her, but I need so many answers I know I will never get from her, and where does that leave me? I do not want to live out the rest of my life like I have.

My InterpretationI think it's about a guy who was with a girl and she died, and he was so wrapped up in the past and doesn't miss her but can't get over or fully deal with what happened, and then as the song goes on like in the 2nd verse with "I must reverse my life, I can't live in the past" is realizing it's time to move on and pick up the pieces of his life.

But Dimebag's solos amazing, Phil's vocals spectacular, all around one of my favourite songs of all time

General CommentThe man has lost someone but wasn't sorry about it. Now he is sad and is going to kill himself to be with her.
