We can remember swimming in December
Heading for the city lights in 1975
We share in each other
Nearer than father
The scent of a lemon drips from your eyes

We are the people that rule the world
A force running in every boy and girl
All rejoicing in the world
Take me now, we can try

We lived an adventure
Love in the Summer
I followed the sun 'til night
Reminiscing other times of life
For each every other
The feeling was stronger
The shock hit eleven
I got lost in your eyes

I can't do well when I think you're gonna leave me
But I know I try
Are you gonna leave me now?
Can't you be believing now?

I can't do well when I think you're gonna leave me
But I know I try
Are you gonna leave me now?
Can't you be believing now?

Can you remember and humanize?
It was still where we'd energized
Lie in the sand and visualize
Like it's '75 again

We are the people that rule the world
A force running in every boy and girl
All rejoicing in the world
Take me now, we can try

I can't do well when I think you're gonna leave me
But I know I try
Are you gonna leave me now?
Can't you be believing now?

I can't do well when I think you're gonna leave me
But I know I try
Are you gonna leave me now?
Can't you be believing now?

I know everything about you
know everything about me
Know everything about us

I know everything about you
know everything about me
Know everything about us

I can't do well when I think you're gonna leave me
But I know I try
Are you gonna leave me now?
Can't you be believing now?

I can't do well when I think you're gonna leave me
But I know I try
Are you gonna leave me now?
Can't you be believing now?

I can't do well when I think you're gonna leave me
But I know I try
Are you gonna leave me now?
Can't you be believing now?

I can't do well when I-

The song is so amazing! To me it's about looking back on the best times of your life with the people/person you loved and never wanting it to end. Simply Amazing.

I don't think this song is anywhere near as cryptic as people make out. It reminisces on past summer loves. Thats all.

It's one of those songs that gets you a bit emotional, you can hear the meaning in it and it tugs at the heart strings.. interesting Blairman, your reasoning of this song. It makes sense. In fact at the moment I am looking at alot of world order conspiracy theories and it kind of wowed me you saw this song as maybe relating to one. Wasn't 1975 also a date that some people believed that a change would happen anyway.. but I won't go into it deep.

I think it is about hoping and dreaming about something which is what I'm going through at the moment and having that one person you love next to you and how you don't want them to leave or stop believing in that dream or ambition you have.. :)

I guess these lyrics seem so abstract, that they could mean whatever you want them to mean and what is relevant to you in your life at that time. I haven't analysed the lyrics closely yet, but I don't believe this is a love song between a couple, but rather a love song about finding oneself. I believe that this song has a spiritual significance. and that it is linked to the Mayan Calendar prophecies, (which end in 2012). I believe that "We are the people who rule the world", are the people who have found enlightenment. "A force runnig in every boy and girl", to me is our life force, energy, (there are many different names for this- kundalini, holy spirit etc). If you look at some of the lyrics- "rejoycing in the world","we can try", "reminiscing other times of life", "I can't do well when i think you're gonna leave me", "I know everything about you, you know everything about me, know everything about us" To me it is about someone who has had a spiritual awakening and is not quite sure of it yet and is scared of losing what he has found. I think it is about becoming one and a celebration of a new life. life, death and re-birth..... x

    A gorgeous song...

A desperate plea of one half of a union to prevent the disillusioned half from abandoning him. One is living in the past, the other is probably already gone.

I am very intrigued by the lyric "the scent of a lemon drips from your eyes". If anyone has any insight I'd appreciate it.

    The video is silly theater.

This is my interpretation of the song. This song is a reflection of the youth of the person singing the song.

Verse 1: In 1975, there was a dance called "Do The Swim". So, swimming in December refers to the dance that him and the other person did. There is also an old church game by the name of Nearer or Farther (creativeyouthideas.com/resources/creative-teaching-ideas/nearer-or-farther/) that was played by children. So, they shared each others secrets in the game. The Scent of Lemon refers to the musical play called "The Scent of Fresh Lemons" (pwmusical.com/index.php) that reflected on the past of the man character. The character sings in a way that sounds like he is crying about his youth.

Chorus: The saying is that "The Youth Rule The World." The Chorus is basically emphasizing this saying. They had power and strength at a young age, but they choose to "rejoice" in what they had at that present time and didn't realize that future was fast approaching.

Verse 2: He and the other person spent alot of time together and did alot of wild things. In 1976-77, Tina Charles released a song called "Fallin In Love in the Summertime." I believe that while doing the wild and crazy things that they did, this song was one of their favorites and reminded them of themselves.

Hook: Everyone knows that it may come to a point in life where you will have to leave behind that one person that you hold close to your heart. Or, that person might leave you. We, as humans, don't do well when we feel like our hearts will be broken. We tend to think when will this feeling end or if it can last forever.

Verse 3: The writer wanted to help remind the other person to be more human and sympathize. To stop being so hard and robotic. Remember when they were young and full of energy; to see if they could get that feeling back that they had in 1975.

Bridge: When in a strong relationship that last over 2 years, you both share alot with each other and know alot about each other. He was trying to remind the person that we should continue on with each other because no one knows you like I know you and vice versa.

i think it is very cryptic.
they are spirits. getting to us through a time window/wormhole and become people. these spirits manifest to human form to spread their message. to remind people: we are the force in every boy and girl in the world which gives them the feeling to have desire (which is described in the song, also with memories) to find each other and connect. a feeling of desire to find each other to fall in love and make love. if you believe in them you will become a believer and share the feeling with every boy and girl in the world to know each other: i know everything about you, you know everything about me. we know everything about us. all have the same feeling. if you can believe.
at the end of the video they disapear and leave our dimension.
they become spirits again. the dead bodies remain.

    My Interpretation

i think as katana08 said its about lookin back on the times enjoyed but than suddenly it hits that this dream might end and paranoia sets in I can’t do well when I think you’re gonna leave me, But I know I try, Are you gonna leave me now, Can’t you be believing now.

or it could mean that the person was just dumped and he's tryin to get his partner to realise the good times they had together

Can you remember and humanise, It was still where we’d energised, Lie in the sand and visualise Like its 75 again,

I know everything about you, You know everything about me, Know everything about us

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
