Wake up your eyes
And darling, your smile
The day is done and everyone's gone now
You can taste every fire
And hold every song
The world has moved
Be quick enough to not miss it now
So wake up your eyes
And darling, your smile

I'm afraid you've stopped to lick your wounds
Dear, do you know?
I'm afraid you've stopped to lick your wounds

Wake up your eyes
Darling, it's time
To hope that forever they'll dry out
It never takes long
And everything's gone
I only know her beauty won't fade out

Back on your side
Darling, you lie to yourself

I'm afraid you've stopped to lick your wounds
Dear, do you know?
I'm afraid you've stopped to lick your wounds

Cause it's no good if you can't have it all.
I'd give it back but I never stole the first part.
And it always goes when you need it most,
The kindest love is still bleeding from the last shot.

General CommentJust got the new cd and I am jamming to this song.

I think the last line pretty much sums it up:
"the kindest love is still bleeding from the last shot"

Real love, true love is expressed by loving and moving forward even when it hurts more than anything. It's kind of like that analogy of turning the other cheek and loving anyway.
When they say I'm afraid you've stopped to lick your wounds, maybe its like, it's no good to sit hurt and dwell on how you've been hurt... which is something we all do.

But "it's no good if you can have it all." That's not real life.

General Commentdefinitely about moving on, or more specifically moving one from love. also its about just seeing the pain in love. hence the name "good morning, fire eater" fire eater meaning someone who only takes the pain and hurt, not appreciating the other benefits of love.
"The kindest love is still bleeding from the last shot."
even the best love is still painful.

the licking the wounds line refers to stopping in dwelling in your hurt.
