"No Sound But the Wind" as written by Thomas Michael Smith, Christopher Dominic Urbanowicz, Russell Leetch and Edward Owen Lay....
We can never go home
We no longer have one
I'll help you carry the load
I'll carry you in my arms
The kiss of the snow
The crescent moon above us
Our blood is cold
And we're alone
But I'm alone with you

Help me to carry the fire
We will keep it alight together
Help me to carry the fire
It will light our way forever

If I say shut your eyes
If I say look away
Bury your face in my shoulder
Think of a birthday
The things you put in your head
They will stay here forever
Our blood is cold
And we're alone, love
But I'm alone with you

Help me to carry the fire
We will keep it alight together
Help me to carry the fire
It will light our way forever

Help me to carry the fire
We will keep it alight together
Now help me to carry the fire
It will light up our way forever

If I say shut your eyes
If I say shut your eyes
Bury me in suprise
Where I say shut your eyes

Help me to carry the fire
We will keep it alight together
Help me carry the fire
It will light our way forever

General CommentMy son came to me with his summer reading list for school. One of the books was The Road by Cormac McCarthy. He had to do a project on the book...one choice was a music playlist for the book. He asked for my help in choosing songs because my tastes tend to be rock/indie/alternative and that would fit better than anything else. So I began reading the book to know good songs to suggest. Within the first IDK...15-20 pages, I saw the "There was no sound but the wind.." line. Made me think of this song as a possiblity. I made a mental note. I later listened to the song specifically to listen closely to the lyrics (this was The New Moon version that I had). After reading more of the book....I knew it was TOO much of a coincidence between the song and book. Which is why I researched more about his inspiration for it. One of the other songs we settled on for his project was a cover Editors did of a Talking Heads song "Road to Nowhere"...it's accoustic and not upbeat like the original. It's more idk...somber or quiet. Makes me wonder if he was still inspired by The Road novel. I haven't seen the movie...but the book gets under your skin and never leaves you. Other songs we've included for the playlist is Muse-Apocalypse Please, The Dead Weather-Will There Be Enough Water?, The Black Keys-So He Won't Break, & Radiohead-Videotape among a few others. Now he just has to write his paper on the relevance of these songs to the book.

General CommentOk then. Before any more twilight fans who don't even know who Editors are keep spamming this page because they feel so clever, let me get this straight: YES, WE KNOW THESE ARE NOT THE LYRICS FROM THE NEW MOON SOUNDTRACK. Now let me explain.

This is the ORIGINAL, LIVE version of the song, played in the summer of 2008 at Paredes de Coura (Portugal) This song was inspired directly by the book "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. Is a post-apocalyptic novel in which a father and his son travel along a road surviving after what looks a nuclear disaster. The ashes surround everything and the dust is so dense the sunlight can't pass through it. The few human survivors succumb to primary instincts such as cannibalism. But it's also a touching and deeply emotional book because of the relationship between father and son. Like a tiny ray of light in the middle of hell. Tom Smith said that he read the book around the time he found out he was going to be a father himself, so the book affected him in a special way.

And, for reasons I can't quite understand, they accepted to include this song in the New Moon soundtrack. But as you can see, the lyrics didn't fit, so they were asked by movie producers to change them *cough*damngreedymorons*cough* Anyway, the new version is still beautiful (because everything Editors do always is). Just too much of a song for such a crap movie.

My OpinionI'm pretty sure that this song is about a book called "The Road" by Cormac Mccarthy. It's about a father and his son making there way south in a post apacolyptic world. No sound but the wind is a quote from the book, as Help to carry the fire. It a pretty good read

My OpinionThis is what I heard:

    We can never go home
    We no longer have one
I'll help you carry the load
I'll carry you in my arms
    The kiss of the snow
    The crescent moon above us
Our blood is cold and we're alone
    But I'm alone with you

Help me to carry the fire
We will keep it alight together
Help me to carry the fire
It will light our way forever

If I say shut your eyes
    If I say look away
Bury your face in my shoulder
    Think of a birthday
The things you put in your hands
    They will stay here forever
Our blood is cold and we're alone, love
    But I'm alone with you

Help me to carry the fire
We will keep it alight together
Help me to carry the fire
It will light our way forever

Help me to carry the fire
We will keep it alight together
Now, help me to carry the fire
It will light up our way forever

If I say shut your eyes
If I say shut your eyes
    Bury me in surprise
Where I say shut your eyes

    Oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh, oh

Help me to carry the fire
    We will keep alight together
Help me to carry the fire
    It'll light our way forever

General CommentAccording to Wikipedia, several of the lyrics were changed for the New Moon version of the song. Also, the original version was heavily inspired by Cormac McCarthy's "The Road."

General CommentI have a feeling, as if I was going throug the forest, everything around are covered with the fog, when I look down I cant see my legs, because of the fog...

the feeling of mystery is filling my mind..

I'm not anymore worried, not anymore tired..

It's a new start, an unplowed field...

And there is no sound..no sound, but the wind...

General CommentOkay, this is just my interpretation of the New Moon version.. This song doesn't refer necessarily to New Moon but the story in general, if you read the books, you'll get what I'm talking about

I think this song refers a lot to Breaking Dawn when Bella goes vampire.. so here's my interpretation.. It's much like a conversation between her and Edward and vampirism itself.

We can never go home // she can never go back.. she'll have to leave everything behind, friends,
    family.. everything
We no longer have one // they'll be nomadic, moving from place to place, never staying too long
I'll help you carry the load // but he promises he'll be there to make it easier, since she'll be a
newborn, thirsting blood and being pretty much violent
I'll carry you in my arms
    The kiss of the snow
    The crescent moon above us
Our blood is cold and we're alone
But I'm alone with you // pretty clear.. it's a love song

Help me to carry the fire //this is from Bella's point of view. The books says the turning is like
We will keep it alight together fire burning and she has to endure it, she asks Edward to help her
Help me to carry the fire through the process, but she also sees it as the means to her and
It will light our way forever Edward being together forever

If I say shut your eyes
    If I say look away
Bury your face in my shoulder
Think of a birthday //This is significant, as birthdays are a horror to Bella, as it
The things you put in your head makes her older than Edward, and yet he believes that it's special,
They will stay there forever as her human life contains precious memories, that is very easy to
Our blood is cold and we're alone, love forget when she becomes a vampire. So he says he'll always be
But I'm alone with you there and asks her to wait, to savor life.. but the end shows
    she made her decision.
The rest is pretty self explanatory.
I think a lot of people doesn't see the significance of these words because they only watched the movie which is a shame, cuz the books are magnificent and no movie can have the amount of time to cover the whole story.
