"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Don't look ahead, just run to me
Each step will find the next one recklessly
We'll find ourselves on the safest ledge
Well pardon me, I couldn't help myself
Girl, fall into your life here
If only for a while, I'm here
Could you be happy to fall like a stone
If you'd land right here safe in my arms?
It's fine, lock all your doors through the night
Keep it all right here, safe in my arms
It's fine, it's fine
You felt alone before you ever really knew how alone you were
An empty house, a lonely room
The TV talks the fear right out of you
But you feel like someone's standing by but you'll never know
Could you be happy to fall like a stone
If you'd land right here safe in my arms?
It's fine, lock all your doors through the night
Keep it all right here, safe in my arms
It's fine
The sun burns a hole straight through your old flaws
If you look toward the sky even on your greyest night
Could you be happy now, with the wind in your hair
And your eyes open wide and your feet going nowhere?
Could you be happy to fall like a stone
If you'd land right here safe in my arms?
It's fine, lock all your doors through the night
Keep it all right here, safe in my arms
It's fine
It's fine

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
I Can't Go To Sleep

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
"It's all about discomfort and how lovely and scary it is to not know what your next step will be,"
i agree with remembermaine
it's definitely about living a life that's unplanned but more specifically about a relationship that you really don't know what's going to happen but you just have to embrace it and hope that everything turns out right "Could you be happy to fall like a stone" it's like just falling with no regrets, or inhibitions and you may be scared but you'll feel comforted in the end
It sounds more romantic to say that this song is about falling madly in love, forgetting everything else in your life, running away with somebody that's always been the friend, but you realize you love. Personally though, I think this song is about accepting God into your life. It seems like this song is from God's point of view to a person who is questioning whether they should take the chance and give their life to God, and to follow Jesus' teachings.
"Don't look ahead, just run to me" Don't worry about what will happen, just go to God.
"Each step will find the next one recklessly" If you live for God, then everything else will work out by itself.
"We'll find ourselves on the safest ledge" And you'll be the safest you've ever felt even if you are on a ledge, because if you fall God will catch you.
"Could you be happy to fall like a stone If you'd land right here safe in my arms?" God is asking, "Could you give up everything and live for me if you knew that I would catch you when you fall?"
"It's fine, lock all your doors through the night Keep it all right here, safe in my arms It's fine, it's fine" Lock yourself away from the sin in the world, and just stay in His ways. Stay in His "arms," and it'll be fine.
"You felt alone before you ever really knew how alone you were An empty house, a lonely room The TV talks the fear right out of you" This person has been living their life for their own personal thrills, and has ended up alone. They look to other things, like the TV for example, to comfort them and distract them.
"But you feel like some one's standing by but you'll never know" This person is not truely alone because God is always there, and this person senses this. They're just not taking the step to look to Him for guidance.
"The sun burns a hole straight through your old flaws" God (the sun) will always forgive you (burn a hole) for your sins (your old flaws.)
"If you look toward the sky even on your greyest night" He will forgive you if you look to the heavens (sky) for his guidance. And he'll forgive you no matter how bad, how dark, or how unholy your circumstance is (your greyest night.)
"Could you be happy now, with the wind in your hair And your eyes open wide and your feet going nowhere?" God is asking, "Are you happy in the present, living your thrills, and letting your hair down, but going nowhere in your walk with Jesus Christ?"
Or, "Could you be happy to fall like a stone If you'd land right here safe in my arms?"
He's asking this person to make a choice. Stay lonely, living life striving to feel alive or actually live with God at your side.
Why do people choose to take matters into their own hands, and interpret every song they hear as religious?
It's not like the people that aren't religious are going around posting shit all the time about how every song means God isn't real.
So please keep the religious comments to yourself :)
k? thanks.
Sorry Lespaulsmith, but this song is about God. Just because you don't like it doesn't give you a right to tell Christians to shut up. Aaron Marsh is a devout Christian. That's why you read Christian interpretations on these songs. Now, not every song of Copeland's is about God. I know that. But I completely agree with Bridget's comment for THIS song. You won't see me talking about God on a Copeland song that's clearly about a woman or on a Slipknot song.
Yeah I also have to agree with Beidget's comment.
I think that is a highly biased interpretation. It's totally okay if that is how you want to see it. Personally I think that is why these songs are written so vague, so that you can interpret it in a way that means something to you. For example, I'd like to point out that every reference you made about God could be made about falling in love with someone.

So like I said, to interpret the song is your way is your prerogative. Just please try not to project your interpretations as a sure thing. You're bound to offend.
This is a wonderful song. And I am anticipating this album a lot. I really love Aaron Marsh's lyrics.
I'm pretty sure the bridge is "The sun burns a hole straight through your old flaws. If you look toward the sky even on your greyest night . . . "
"The sun burns a hole straight through your old flaws If you look toward the sky even on your greyest night"
it's actually "The sun burns a hole straight through your hopeful eyes if you look toward the sky even on your greyest night"
from the cd booklet
it's fineeee
this is my favorite song from the album. so good.
i love this song. but i must say, i think the chorus should be "could you be happy to fall like a star", just to show that falling so deeply in love can seem to be out of this world.
Why can't every song make me feel this way?
Easily in the top 3 of this album.
'Each step will find the next one recklessly'
Falling (in love, failing, through the sky, in life) is literally rocking my thoughts lately. The imagery in this song puts those thoughts into perspective with a simple 'It's fine.' His falsetto makes it so comforting.
And Rae Cassidy needs a record deal. Her voice is such a contrast to his but fits so well in that bridge.
