"Against Privacy" as written by and Jonathan Russell Matthew Maust....
We don't gamble
We don't do the stock exchange
We paint paintings
We write scenes for the stage

We will talk about well fare
We will talk about sex
Talk about the pope in Prada shoes
No body gets gets upset
No body gets upset

And we're waiting
Were waiting for your call
We're against privacy
Against privacy

Forget ex-girlfriends
We want little governments
We tell stories
We want to get you to join in

Call us optimistic
We get the meanest looks
We are bust through romantics
History books will show
History books will show

And we're waiting
We're waiting for your call
We're against privacy
Against privacy

And we're waiting
We're waiting for your call
We're against privacy
Against privacy

And we're waiting
We're waiting for your call
We're against privacy
Against privacy

We're sure that you'll agree

General Commentyeah the whole thing bout the little governments.. tis true that its the republican right wing theory, but also part of anarchism. i think this song is a collective political statement of the band members.

but i dont think this is a neo liberal republican anthem, as they are "against privacy"(privacy as in private property is a fundamental ideology of the right)
they also talk bout the pope in prada (hypocrisy of the wealthy church? - left wing ideas of wealth)

so me and a friend were joking that this is more of an anarcho communist anthem, after all they are against privacy (communism), and big governments (a doctrine of anarchism)

still im not sure, im kinda just raving... an anarcho communist manifest? probably not..

General CommentI can kinda see the whole anarcho-syndicalist thing... but I feel like the privacy refered to is not private property, but private thoughts. "We will talk about welfare,/ we will talk about sex/ Talk about the Pope in Prada shoes,/ Nobody gets upset" It seems more about laying it all out on the line and not worrying about how other people will take it, not getting bent out of shape about other people's opinions. Sounds like advocacy for intellectual intercourse. I love it.

General CommentI think this song is actually about their song writing lyrical style, which they received mixed opinions for by the media after their first release Robbers and Cowards.

Forget ex-girlfriends... we tell stories, we want to get you to join in.

We will talk about welfare - A reference to their song We Used To Vacation perhaps?

We will talk about sex - Probably Hair Down, where their uncommon view of sex is thrown out there (True love, it waits)

Talk about the Pope in Prada shoes - This one is obviously Passing the Hat, one of their most criticized songs for its lyrics.

We paint paintings, we write scenes for the stage...

Song MeaningI'm pretty sure the "We" in this song is "Christians". Cold War Kids are definitely Christians, and it seems like the song is saying, "Look, we're just regular people. We'll be open and honest with you, we'll talk about whatever. We don't have any secrets. Forget the biases and the preconceptions you have about us just because we're "Christians". We won't get upset if you disagree. We're waiting for you." Though what toomanytrees said about it being about their past lyrics in Robbers & Cowards is also very plausible.
