Come through the door
A darkened room
She draws white lines to set the mood
We conversate, drink our wine, she kissed my lips then checked the time
We went out to a better place, a different crowd that's more her taste
She blended in, and I don't see all the secrets that she keeps

I'm watching, stop moving, stop moving further away
The party is shaking, so why did you have to change
I've given up, I've given all that I can so
I float over you
I float over you

My back is up against the wall
You can't see lies when lights are off
How could you leave, how could you go, I can't be buried here alone
I need to find another face, since honesty is more my taste
Met a foreign girl with a foreign name, said these chemicals will ease the pain

I'm watching, stop moving, stop moving further away
The party is shaking, so why did you have to change
I've given up, I've given all that I can to you
I float over you
I float over you
I float over you
I float over you

I walk up to the open night
I find her there still drawing lines
Should I try to make amends
With tonight and empty friends
You speakk in words you never meant
The ones you love already left
Say you piece and moving on
When morning wakes you I'll be gone

I float over you
I float over you
I float over you
I float over you

General CommentI agree with MayaMoo, but in a different sense. I feel that she's the one that likes to get high, and he isn't really into it. But, he's hot for her, and he follows her around to let her get in her "element." The "float over you" seems to be either a sexual subliminal, him being done with her or the fact that when people get high on "white lines" they tend to "crash" afterwards. That allows him to be able to "float over her" since she falls down to the "bottom" when her high is over. The final one, him being done with her, could be viewed from the lines "I've given up, I've given all that I can so" and "I've given up, I've given all that I can to you." Which, if you look at it, seems like lines said by someone who has had enough of the BS and is just "done." So, in that sense, "Float Over You" could be like flying away and/or far out of reach.

I don't feel I should have to explain the sexual subliminal.

General Commentto me it is about him trying to move on from a girl, by having one night stands, and getting high/drunk etc.

General CommentGetting high and having one night stands.

    References to her drug habits:
"She draws white lines to set the mood".
"I find her there still drawing lines".
    And also to his:
"Said these chemicals will ease the pain".

He'll float over her, because he's high.

General Commenti agree with cabres, i think she's the one that's getting high, and he just joins in a little to try and keep up with her.

everything else has already been said. :)

this is my favorite innerpartysystem song. it's beautiful in every possible way, and i could listen to it on repeat for hours. <3

General Commentagreed, she is the one getting high more so than him:

I walk up to the open night
I find her there still drawing lines
Should I try to make amends
    With tonight and empty friends
You speakk in words you never meant
The ones you love already left
Say you piece and moving on
When morning wakes you I'll be gone

He comes back to still find her drawing lines, he thinks maybe he should say something to put his mind at rest so he can move on. "The ones you love already left", family gave up on her. S"ay your piece and move on", I think he is saying this to himself. Then he closes out with, hey I'm leaving, you won't see me in the morning...

    Great song.

    General Comment"I float over you"
She floats over him... She's higher up than he is. She's somewhat pure despite her habits...
It's like she's a dream that he always wanted, but when he finally got her, he lost her and didn't know...
She's perfect in her eyes until he's gone.. until he realizes what she is...

General CommentI think it's about a girl who he has a thing for, and they may be sleeping together, but she's very damaged and a drug user. He thinks she's perfect, but then she takes him to parties where things are darker/more dangerous than he'd like, and he sees that she fits in. Even though she brings him places and needs him, she abandons him, so he ends up getting into the party, sleeping with someone else, but he's still thinking about her. Just when he's thinking maybe he could get into this kind of life, he realizes that even the next day she's using drugs, it's not just something that she does for fun. He can't save her, because she's pushing him away and doesn't want to save herself.
