Me and Snake talk about you everyday
I can't wait to see your face
And he tells me he feels the same

We lie awake, we're tired
But we can't get to sleep
I'm tired cause I've scraped through the day
He's tired because he's been out late again

And there he lies staring up with his big gay eyes
He whispers to me, "Aren't you tired? I'm tired of missing heat?"

I'll wake with Snake
He's soft inside but not as soft as you
I love that Snake
I love you more, but he's no substitute
I'll wake, I'll wake with you soon

Yesterday Snake told me about the time
When we came to meet you off the plane
We all drove home in wheels

He was proud and awfully glad that I took him out
I said "How does New York sound?"
He said "It sounds quite loud"

So pack your pipes
Pack your chapstick
And your tights
Won't you foray out at night
And go and visit me?

We'll take your camera and go to the zoo
And take pictures of other snakes with you
And hope one turns out to be cute

I'll wake with Snake
He's soft inside but not as soft as you
I love that Snake
I love you more, he's no substitute
I'll wake, I'll wake with you soon

General Comment To be honest I thought it was about wanking the first time I heard it too, but the draught excluder sounds a bit less creepy. A bit...

This is a beautiful song to listen to, and despite the possibly intentional trickery of the song, it is actually about a snake shaped draught excluder from ikea."

I did read that here: "Everyone thinks it’s about my penis, but it’s not,” he remarked after playing “Snake,” which he elaborated is actually about his plans to surprise a woman in New York City by showing up with nothing but the clothes on his back and a draft snake he’d been keeping for her. As it happened, the girl was “less than thrilled,” so he wrote “I Feel Better” as a sequel, reusing the music from the chorus." (t-sides.com/)

But there seems to be a contradiction here: "Well, basically, there's, the last song on, you know "Snake"? It's me going to New York. "I Feel Better" is me coming back from New York, having failed in my attempts. I took "Snake", I took the snake to New York. The snake, it's a snake, so I took him out to New York to visit my girlfriend, to see if we could sort things out. And then it didn't work, so I flew back. So "I Feel Better" is the sequel to "Snake." (30music.com/…)

I prefer to think it's his pet snake.

General CommentI love this song, and I love the accompanying story, and yes, it's big GAY eyes, because the snake was multicoloured, so someone should change that!

My OpinionI thought it was 'Awake with Snake' rather than I'll wake with snake. Also I thought it was a big innuendo but i wasn;t sure because of the zoo thingy xD and some of the other lyrics. Now I think its just a really sweet song, which it was anyway.

General CommentI'm just back from a gig where scott sung this song and he confirmed that it is about his ex girlfriend who moved away to new york over 6 years ago, and the snake in the song is a multicoloured draft excluder snake that he and his girlfriend said was gay due to its colour and how he tries to win back the girlfriend who is living in new york by using the snake and how it eventually didnt work out.

General CommentSnake is indeed a snake shaped draught excluder. At their greys anniversary concert last month they raffled off snake although it turned it wasn't they original (sadly lost) but one Scott's mum had made for the occasion. Snake was rainbow coloured so they decided he was a gay snake. Wheels was the name they gave to their car. "We were very literal people" he said

General CommentSo either this song IS just a sweet story about him missing his girl, or it's about him thinking about his girl every time he jerks off whenever she's not around.

General CommentGungalei: I thought it was just a very cute song until I read your comment. It fits way too well. I'm kind of disturbed now (not so much by the nature of the song as that I've been listening to it in blissful ignorance).

This is a beautiful song to listen to, and despite the possibly intentional trickery of the song, it is actually about a snake shaped draught excluder from ikea. His girlfriend went away on holiday or something, and he kept this 'snake' as company while he was waiting for her.

General CommentI saw FR in Edinburgh last month and they actually played Snake. It was so amazing! After hearing him sing it though I think the chorus goes like this:

    I’ll wake with snake
he's soft inside but not as soft as you
    I love that Snake
but I love you more, he’s no substitute
I’ll wake, I’ll wake with you soon

    :)
