Dead men, they celebrate,
as the final chapter fades away.
'Cause they can't hide, we can see their flesh is rotten.

The band plays a hopeful tune,
the champagne is poured as they socialize.
The look in their eyes, hide in the light.

Everything is paid for tonight, while at the party of the dead dancing in their graves.
The drinks here are free so relax,
enjoy the sight of all the dead dancing in their graves.
And while the world that they built, told 'em to change, told 'em to listen,
they just kept it the same.
And now that midnight has come, I'll get a room watching the dead dancing in their graves.

Bones covered up by suits, as the visible scars, they multiply.
Kiss it goodbye, too stubborn and I'll destory.

Tick, tock, the time bomb has been
recognized and pressurized.
Nowhere to hide, swallowing light!

I feel a coming strength
And now it's too late to chan-

[Background chatter.]

General CommentI'd have to say this song is pretty clearly a political one. The dead dancing in their graves are the people who have built this world, and now they're all laughing at us because we've continuously let them take advantage of us. They "hide in the light" because it's best to hide in plain sight. They pretend to be good and have good intentions for us, when all they really care about is money and power and keeping that power.
The same families that founded this country have always held power. They've never lost this power. Families have cycled the role of "president", but they've all been in Congress and such forever.
We keep telling them what we want, but they don't want to change it because it would affect their grip on us.
I think the time bomb he refers to is the revolution that is going to sweep this nation. Hopefully eventually we'll all wake up and realize that the only way to change the way this world works is to stand up in unison and fight the evil. Remember that there are more of us than there are of them, and there is strength in numbers. They control us by fear, but it is they who are afraid of us, and if we ever learned out true potential.

General Commentit's about the titanic. obviously eveerything was free, it was a rich cruise. "the band plays a hopeful tune" talks about the ands that kept playing, despite sinking. and if you look at the back(?)of the cd/dvd case, there's a boat that had run into a building in the middle of the water that cleary resembles the iceburg.

General CommentThis song made me think of the El Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead(Spain, Latin Americas, and Mexico's "Halloween" ), a day they celebrate the dead by visiting their graves and having a toast and dancing for them.

General Commenti think its about people in power
such as polititions or the people on wallstreet
like the A.I.G bank thing where they got bailed out then they used the money given to them by the tax payers(a.k.a you) to go on vacation
eventhough they're rich and succesful their lives arent really all that great, they suck.
kinda like george bush. he is rich, has a family, he was president. in charge of the greatest country on earth. but not many people really liked him

i dont know how to say it
its about people who we are suposed to look up to and want to be like (the rich, famous, successful)
but shadows is saying their lives arent as great as you think
    they're dead inside
acting like their happy . dancing around sayin look at me
    but their dead inside

i dont know if you get what im sayin but
thats the best i can explain it

My InterpretationI tend to agree with the interpretation that xXw1ck3dXx gave. I think it's about people waking up to the corruption that has run rampant in the world. People all over are waking up to the powers that be and understanding that our government is little more than a puppet and that the international banking cartels run the world. Hence "we can see their flesh is rotten."

I don't agree with fakeblood's interpretation. Al Gore is a charlatan and the global warming hoax has been obliterated. Climategate has left the IPCC in shambles and it has lost ALL credibility. Let's preserve our earth through effort, not a global tax to make the rich richer.

General CommentI'm pretty sure it's about watching all these people partying themselves to death; drugs, alcohol, cigarettes. Sure, these people are having fun, but they're dying while doing it. So the question posed is would you rather be bored, miserable and live or enjoy life and die doing it? It reminds me of No One Lives Forever by Oingo Boingo.

My Interpretationi believe the song is talking about when people die they are set free from the world and can finally relax and have no stress or problems. they can just enjoy themselves without worry, along with all the others whom have died

My InterpretationDoes anyone else think that this is similair to Edgar Allen Poe's "Masque Of The Red Death?" I had to read it for an English class I took, and the whole time i was reading it, i kept thinking "This sounds like 'Dancing Dead'."
I guess i'll just do a lyrical breakdown and how it relates to Poe:

    "Dead men, they celebrate,
as the final chapter fades away.
'Cause they can't hide, we can see their flesh is rotten"

in Poe's story they were trying to escape the plague, yet they were going to die anyway, and it was set during the last hours before midnight, the final chapter of the day. Also, the plague in the story causes flesh to rot from the bodies.

"The band plays a hopeful tune,
the champagne is poured as they socialize.
The look in their eyes, hide in the light."

the band keeps playing while the people dance, they keep drinking and partying, ignoring the outside world and its problems, even though deep down they know that they cant escape death.

"Everything is paid for tonight, while at the party of the dead dancing in their graves.
The drinks here are free so relax,
enjoy the sight of all the dead dancing in their graves.
And while the world that they built, told 'em to change, told 'em to listen,
they just kept it the same.
And now that midnight has come, I'll get a room watching the dead dancing in their graves."

The Prince paid for everything, all the food and wine are paid for at his expense. he wants his guests to relax and enjoy the party. Poe had a dislike for the rich, which readers also interpret into "Masque" by him killing the rich nobles because he disliked how the rich carried themselves, which A7X references in the lyric "While the world that they built, told 'em to change, told 'em to listen, but they just kept it the same." And in "Masque" the figure representing the Plague finally enters when the clock strikes midnight, which finally kills the guests.

"Bones covered up by suits, as the visible scars, they multiply.
Kiss it goodbye, too stubborn and I'll destory."

Maybe referencing how the corpses look after they're infected?

"Tick, tock, the time bomb has been
    recognized and pressurized.
    Nowhere to hide, swallowing light!"

the tick tock could refer to the clock in the 7th room of the castle, the time bomb meaning that when the clock strikes midnight the Plague would sweep through the castle? You cant hide from death, and when that fact illuminates you, you swallow it and try to go on.

I guess that's how i interpret the song. I know that The Rev had a lot of writing on this album, and i can definatly tell he wrote parts to this song, and he's cited Poe as inspiration before. I'm not 100% sure that that's what this is based off of, but it makes sense though.

Song MeaningIt is extremely clear to me what this song is about. BTW, lyrically this may be their best song ever.....I love it.

It is about the elitists that rule this world, and their coming fate. They are dead, both figuratively and literally. Or soon to be at least. A revolution is coming, and those that have been destroyed by these statist pigs are going to rise up.

"And while the world that they built, told 'em to change, told 'em to listen,
they just kept it the same."

Says a lot. Also the parts about "Everything is paid for tonight" and "The drinks here are free" is about how they have used their shady dealings to steal from the people to make them fat and happy.

"Bones covered up by suits, as the visible scars, they multiply.
Kiss it goodbye, too stubborn and I'll destory."

Suits refer to the elitist politicians and bankers in bed with each other......honestly I haven't figured out the reference to visible scars multiplying. Obviously "BONES" is a metaphor then because bones don't have scars, but I think it is talking about how lifeless and soulless they are and the continual and multiplying damage they are inflicting on this world. "Too stubborn and now you're destroyed" I think are the correct lyrics, that is what I hear anyways. Nothing hidden in that meaning, just means we are coming after them to destroy them.

"Tick, tock, the time bomb has been
    recognized and pressurized.
    Nowhere to hide, swallowing light!"

Pretty obvious meanings also following this theme. The Revolution is a ticking time bomb.

Best guess on lyrics following solo:

    "Why'd you ?????????????
You drown me with all that you got
    Oh, how the mighty fall"

Have to go? Write the law? Something like that......but I don't need to repeat myself on the meaning of this. Same thing, different way of saying it. There is a storm brewing in this world, A7X recognizes it......do you?
