I'm one stop
From a breakdown
Two steps from
Being safe
Just try to
See this through
I'm three steps
From this nightmare
And four steps
From the door
The rest is
Up to you

Pardon me while I
Just turn my back
And walk away
Pardon me if I
Can't listen
To the things
You say
Pardon me if I
Can't fake it
While you still believe
Pardon me

I'm one step
From forgiveness
And two steps
From my grave
We're all just
Passing through
Three steps
From redemption
Four from the
Devil's door
On a path
That leads to you

Pardon me while I
Just turn my back
And walk away
Pardon me if I
Can't listen
To the things
You say
Pardon me if I
Can't fake this
While you still believe
Pardon me

Pardon me while I
Just turn my back
And walk away
Pardon me if I
Can't listen
To the things
You say
Pardon me if I
Can't fake it
While you still believe
Pardon me

I'm two steps
From salvation
But I'm only
Taking one
Pardon me

    My Interpretation

So you've got this guy who is probably past the lust and exileration of early relationships, he has a choice of going on a rutt and leaving the a girl who loves him and would never abandon him. He feels that if he remains his mind will destroy him, he'll go insane, live in a nightmare... If, however, he fulfills his need to look elsewhere he realizes what will become of him. His quest for another is an easier route he eventually decides to take, pack up and leave. The girl will be left grieving, the guy will live to repeat this measure until he realizes the things the girl 'believes' and 'says' are actually true. It's typical for me, I have a great girlfriend who loves me, but i feel trapted and want to explore my options before wedlock. I don't know if i can count on her love alone, if i no longer feel it for her. So I find a new girl and and happy and excited for awhile, then get sick of the same old thing every day, finding every girl I meet a new exileration and temptation.

    My Opinion

I experience this song differently in different scenarios of my life.

I'm in the middle of a breakup where he hurt me, I thought I'd try and hang on for a while and see if things get better, he promised he wouldn't do it again... Things got better... But when it got serious I realised I lost my feelings, and I just couldn't find the strength to trust him again "Can't listen To the things You say"... whether or not he did it again I'm will never know... My point is, I stayed with him "faking" and hoping things will go back to how they were. "I'm two steps" from where I will be after the breakup, and being "redeemed". But its hard to leave cause I love him, so for now Im only "taking one"...

    My Opinion

This song makes me think of when me ex broke up with me for being "too clingy" but was cheating on me before we broke up.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
