Sugar-coated white lies can only get you so far
Before you get caught up in the middle and
I'm a human too
My life has value
And everybody will think the same

Good morning, time to wake up
Sugar-coated white lies, in the middle
If this is a lie then what am I?
Now I'm standing on my rooftop
I sure could use someone to talk to
Someone to make it alright
'Cause I'm done pretending

Sugar-coated white lies can only get you so far
Before you get caught up in the middle and
I'm a human too
My life has value
And everybody will think the same

I never thought that I would live to see
Everyone and me struggling to breathe
If this is a lie then what am I?

When the power of love
Exceeds the love for power
The world will finally, finally know peace

They'll fight for the center of the universe with the sun
You're trapped in your tube and blind from the truth
This is the future that's in store for you

Sugar-coated white lies can only get you so far
Before you get caught up in the middle and
I'm a human too
My life has value
And everybody will think the same

And sugar-coated white lies can only get you so far
Before you get caught up in the middle and
I'm a human too
My life has value
And everybody will think the same

This is the portrait the man behind the curtain
Has painted for you
As long as you choose to be separate
You leave yourselves completely enslaved

xBeforeBreathing is the closest to being right. If you've ever seen the documentary ZEITGEIST, it talks about how the government is lying to us about 9/11 and so forth.

    "My life has value."

"When the power of love Exceeds the love for power The world will finally know peace."

"This is the portrait the man behind the curtain has painted for you"

Those quotes are from the movie, I'm not positive about the last one though. It is about how fucked our world is right now. How set up everything is.

I advise that everyone see that documentary. It's worth your time.

This song is about how the media (television, magazines, etc.) feeds us lies and/or forces us to believe things that aren't necessarily true. It also goes into depth on how every individual should have their own rights and purposes even if they aren't as well known as the people you see on your screens.

Ok 3 months later and yes im still up set there's comments on this amazing song! Whatever..I've come back to tell my thoughts on the meaning of the song...and I've concluded that its about a guy that thinks he's in a good relationship, but really his girlfriend is lying and probably cheating and he finds this out and it hurts him a lot! So much he wants to kill himself...or thinks about killing himself...something along those lines Yeah!

....no....not at all. not every song is about someone crying over their girlfriend. Its pretty obvious. its about the fucked up state the worlds in right now, where nobody gives a fuck about anyone other then themselves

Not every socially aware song by every band is a reference to Zeitgeist - I'm seeing these prophetic people all over the place claiming so. A lot of people talk about our culture and how fucked up it is, without having heard about it from that subpar documentary. There's a million different ways to come to that conclusion and that's just one. Who's to say they haven't just read Howard Zinn, Derrick Jensen, Emma Goldman, or writings by the Zapatistas or any anarchist literature? Maybe they've just listened to a lot of bands that talk about this stuff and it's rubbed off. There's so many possibilities and we've no clue.

A lot of people can see how we're "enslaved" in this civilization, or this society, or capitalist system (depending on who you talk to), and the majority of them didn't get it from that doc.

Now it's my turn to push something - If you want you're world turned upside down even more so, and by a more credible source, read Derrick Jensen's "Endgame".

    :)

I think the last stanza means that God has a path and a life made for you to lead and if you choose to disobey it then you will be forever enslaved by sin and satan's hold on you

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
