So we're alone at last,
the very touch of your hand
here in this town that holds you
is all that I have.
'are you afraid?' she asks
'cos if you can't live this way,
then you should unpack now'

'Well you could try and wait?'
-'oh but I've sat so still for you'
'but I can't change my life and not change this'

You un-tie me
So what would you do?
Cos that's what I would do too
And you know I seem to never
know what to say, and I've been holding back
Will you un-tie me?
So I can stay with you

So you're asleep when I
kiss your forehead goodbye,
remember all I've told you-
remember our pact
cos being here with you is a solid
half of my life
but can I join the two?
Cos when I think that I may-
girl I tip the scales with you,
but If I forget all my plans
would I forget you too?

You un-tie me
So what would you do?
Cos that's what I would do too
And you know I seem to never
know what to say, and I've been holding back
Will you un-tie me?
So I can stay with you

I'm starting to think that I just see
our lives through other's eyes,
and I have fallen upon deaf ears,
I've seen your tears well up inside
and now I know why

You un-tie me
So make sure you mean it

Cos that's what I would do too
Cos you know I seem to never
know what to say, and I've been holding back
Will you un-tie me?
So I can stay with you

I think the song is about him having to make a decision that would either end in him leaving her or choosing the other life. The decision is too hard for him to make and he doesn't want to hurt her, so he asks for help. But he's so caught up in the other life that he needs her to untie him. Whatever she tells him to do is what he'll do. " cos being here with you is a solid half of my life but can I join the two? Cos when I think that I may- girl I tip the scales with you, but If I forget all my plans would I forget you too?"

He can't have both lives, but he doesn't want one without the other either.

So basically just confusion and a really hard decision. This song is so beautiful.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
