I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Let me tell you bout two young lovers that lived on the coast
She was such a pretty thing, and man what a host
Come evenin time she sets the table for rour
Some friends are commin round tonight
He's out on the town, He's tryin to score
Woke up early this morning something's on his mind
Cursin the night before, breakfast at nine
She felt him restless oh all through the night
She senses somethings wrong with him
She doesn't want to pry, she just wants to know why
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh---Oh No, Not You Again
Don't own no smimming pool, not even a colour TV
He work awful hard some days and she lets him be
Things ain't looking to good for them no love no more
Some friends are commin round tonight
He's out on the town, He's tryin to score

Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
Punchline

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
Plastic Bag

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
She's a homebody who wants to make a good life with him and their friends.
He's out trying to score drugs instead of being home with her.
She doesn't want to pry, she just wants to know why - why he's never home, why he's working so hard yet there's never any money, and why he's not interested in sex any more.
Simple answer for all 3 - he's on smack.
Any addict reacts the same way when you get close to the truth - "oh no, not you again" - don't make me confront this problem.
There's not a lot more to this song.
@timmo11
Actually your right on the money there Timmo11!
Guy McDonough who both wrote and was main singer of this song was a Heroin user who'll later loose his life at the age of 28 due to both his drug use and battling HIV infection/AIDS (contracted via continue needle sharing).
Initially they claimed that the song was about infidelity but later on from sources including from both his brother William 'Bill' McDonough 2nd/Jnr and Australian Crawl Co founder and lead singer James Reyne mentioned it was about hiding a drug addiction and in a number of ways was a part autobiography song about Guy McDonough himself.
James Reyne still performs this song as main vocals on stage in honour of his former school and band friend to this day as part of the James Reyne band.
Other current members also include-
Tracy Kingman- Session and Backing Vocals
Brett Kingman- Acoustic and rhythm guitar (a role which Guy McDonough was renowned for)
Andy McIvor- Bass guitar
John Watson- Drums
the lyric in the third verse is
"Things ain't looking good for them no love no more"
top notch song. i see these guys like the australian version of CCR... kinda.
sounds like there's a young couple. the guy is out sleeping around, running amok all over town, while his good wife/girlfriend is at home with her friends, waiting for him to come home.
Maybe he's knocking on his tamborine mans door?????

Sad song going in circles, almost got roped in with a guy who did the same to his wife. Man I almost got snagged up in the same garbage. Moved on from that found a new captain! People don’t change. Thank God I live in Atlanta far far away
