Love isn't always the way to a place we all know
Making up for lost time can be hard

I know this girl named Maggie Mahoney
Stole the dance and left me so lonely
Maggie please just give me a chance tonight
Swing you, sway you out on the dance floor
Your crooked smile making me laugh more
Maggie please just act like you care tonight

And if it's love you think I came here for
Well you're wrong
Maggie you're wrong
'Cause it's just one dance I've wanted for so long
Maggie so long

I know this girl named Phoney Mahoney
Stole the dance and left me so lonely
Maggie, please just act like you care tonight
Swing you, sway you out on the dance floor
Your crooked smile making me laugh more
Maggie please just give me a chance tonight

If it's love you think I came here for
Well you're wrong
Maggie you're wrong
'Cause it's just one dance I've wanted for so long
Maggie so long

Maggie stay home
'Cause we all know your old tricks
Maggie listen close
'Cause the sound makes us sick

And if it's love you think I came here for
Well you're wrong
Maggie you're wrong
'Cause it's just one dance I've wanted for so long
Maggie so long

If it's a second chance you're looking fo
Well I'm gone
Maggie so long

My InterpretationFirst of all, I have been listening to this song essentially nonstop since I first heard it... It's absolutely amazing. Seabird is my new favorite band! They sound like a cross between The Fray and The Script and they're going to be the next big thing, I'm absolutely positive =)

Now, onto the lyrics. This song is about how the singer had a relationship with a girl, Maggie, who couldn't take anything seriously and ended up breaking his heart. He wants her back but only for one night (one dance). Even though he still cares about her he's afraid of admitting this to himself and giving her a second chance, lest she hurt him again. Its like he's trying to cover up his broken heart (loneliness) with physical want (the one dance), thinking this will satisfy him.

Amazing song, lyrically and in that addicting melody

General CommentI heard an interview with Aaron Morgan in which he explained exactly what this song means. He said that he had a friend who was taking a dance class. Also in the class was a girl name Maggie Mahoney who ended up being dance partner to this guy. Aaron said that this girl got really really attached to this guy. The friend then told the girl that he didn't want any deeper relationship beyond their dancing partnership. Apparently the girl then became rather mean to the guy, causing Aaron to write the song. It turns out that this song is really straight-forward.
