"Innocence" as written by and Mikel Jollett....
Well, I lost my innocence today
I could feel her in my bones
My bones, my bones, my bones
My blood, my blood, my blood, my blood

And I woke up, tired, scared and sad
Soaked, drained, I felt so bad
Today, today, today
What you still, you still, you still, you still
Won't you say, you say, you say, you say
What you feel, you feel, you feel, you feel
Which is nothing but hollow feelings, yeah
I can, done, I just don't care

And forget happiness, I'm fine
I'll forget everything in time
I swear I didn't know,
You know me, how I can't let go
And we're not guts, we're just hacks
All that life amongst the cracks
The scars, the siege that breaks
The ugliest scene, the worst mistakes
And everywhere I see her face
Such a beautiful child, such an awful waste
And there's no innocence like hers
Just emptiness and nerves

And this light from the window of my car
She'll never see it, oh my God
I was so surprised, it blew up in my face
Lord, I lost my nerve, oh my God...
Oh my God, oh my... God

And I tear, I tear, so hard...
And I tear, I tear, so hard...
And I beg and scream, "I was wrong"
It's over, she's gone

    General CommentI wanna disappear
    I just sleep all day
    These spots on my hands
    My skin just like sand
    And the air so cold
    I shudder and I can't sing

    The carpet on my feet
The sweat stains on the sheets
    Cough syrup and drugs
    Bandages and gauze
    The razor's dull
The water, cold against my skin
    The radio lull
The static buzzing around like tin

    And all these empty plans
The ink stains on my hands
    And everyone saves
The best words for the grave
    Oh, these weary morning tones
    I'll probably save mine too
If heaven's just the long ride home
    Tell me it's true
    I'll go too
    I'll go too
    I'll go too

General CommentThis song makes me think of a friend/love passing away.
This song is going to forever remind me of my best friend that just committed suicide. This song puts a sound to what I was feeling after I found out.

    And forget happiness, I'm fine
    I'll forget everything in time
    I swear I didn't know,
You know me, how I can't let go
And we're not guts, we're just hacks
All that life amongst the cracks
The scars, the siege that breaks
The ugliest scene, the worst mistakes
And everywhere I see her face
Such a beautiful child, such an awful waste
And there's no innocence like hers
    Just emptiness and nerves

Especially this part. She was only 18. Just reading this part of the song makes me sad.

Song MeaningWhen I hear this song I think of loosing your virginity.
Commonly when someone is a virgin, they are "innocent"
Loosing your innocence... There are many lines in this song that can prove this theory.

Song MeaningI believe it is really about a guy who is depressed (if you see the full version lyrics, there are two verses about him being unhappy, and thinking of committing suicide). Here he cheats on his gf, he is losing his innocence, and after he wakes up, next to other girl, he is full with regrets, he destroyed everything, he was happy but he didn't knew it, and now she is gone.

What you still, you still, you still, you still
Won't you say, you say, you say, you say
What you feel, you feel, you feel, you feel
Which is nothing but hollow feelings, yeah
    I can, done, I just don't care

She doesn't know what to feel about after what he did.

    And forget happiness, I'm fine
    I'll forget everything in time

He knows that he will never be happy again, because what he thought he wanted, only made him miserable.

    I swear I didn't know,
You know me, how I can't let go
And we're not guts, we're just hacks
All that life amongst the cracks
The scars, the siege that breaks
The ugliest scene, the worst mistakes
And everywhere I see her face
Such a beautiful child, such an awful waste
And there's no innocence like hers
    Just emptiness and nerves

He tries to explain his actions, he misses her so much, but that doesn't change a thing, despite how broken he was before, she is the only one that could make it all better, but she is gone.

I was so surprised, it blew up in my face
Lord, I lost my nerve, oh my God...
Oh my God, oh my... God

He realizes completely what he has done, he asks for forgiveness, he is surprised be the situation, by how easily he lost control.

And I beg and scream, "I was wrong"
    It's over, she's gone

    nothing can be changed..
what a beatiful and realistic song <3

General Commentthe thing is that everyone can relate to this song or will relate to it eventually. it's about losing your first lover, or so that's what it seems; just someone who means a lot to you.

General CommentI hear it as gods, especially with hacks, I feel like "And we're not guts, we're just hacks" I feel like gods fits better than guts...could be my interpretation.

My Interpretationwhen I first heard this, all I could think of was two lovers..
then I hear it again, I think of two lovers and a child, a child gone.
I'd rather it wasn't about that.
love is a sometimes violent thing, so the lyrics don't have to line up to literal violence.
