I've been looking at a bedroom
A quiet little avenue
Shouldn't really matter if it matters to you
I've been trying to be alright
Dying in the moonlight
Lie awake and wonder if it matters to you
Because you never could quite say
Why you had to get away
From the home that we made together
So I sold it all away
I could not take the pain
Of our bedroom with a window and a grand view
If I don't get to share with you

So I packed up all your pictures
Sat at your piano
Never heard a person who could play quite like you
It was clumsy but committed
Ugly but you meant it
Sounds you made come out if it were crooked and blue

But I only heard you sing
And you thought I could not see
I was hiding in the back room
Listening
And the voice that I could hear
Keeps ringing in my ear
I wish now that I told you
Loved you

But I only heard you sing
And you thought I could not see
I was hiding in the back room
Listening
And the voice that I could hear
It keeps ringing in my ear
Oh, I wish now that I told you
Loved you
'Cause now I'll never say it to you

    General CommentHe's crushed.
From all the things that went wrong with one girl.

    First Verse:
He could only think of what things meant to the girl, and in seeing the house that they once built together, he couldn't take the memory of what they could of been. So he "sold" it all away, whether he actually sold it, or just flat out gave it away. He may even be homeless, just wandering and lost, hence-
    "dying in the moonlight"

    Second Verse:
Before he sold the house, he looked at everything that was hers.** And he's describing her, and how she was, not just how she played the piano. He's thinking back on her memory, and her personality.

    Third & Fourth Verses:
This is his regrets. How he listened in on the girl, and heard her voice even though he was never supposed to. He regrets that he never told her how he really felt.

**Oh, and I think that she didn't leave him. She died. I don't see why else he would still have all her stuff.
