I'm alive, should have died in a plane crash
Four long years ago
Lost my hope, couldn't cope with my fear of news on the radio
I've got a long red cape that's caught in the engine of a plane
That is flying way too low

Yesterday a hurricane had blown away my long red cape
And I feel satisfied

Ah-ah-ah-aah-ah-ah-ah-aah-ah

I'm in peace, I feel sweetly released
From all that I couldn't let go
If I knew what to do
The I guess I'd finally feel anew
But I can't wear my cape
'Cause I would be repeating a mistake

I just gotta let it go
I just gotta let it go
I just gotta let it, let it go, let it go
I just gotta let it go

Yesterday a hurricane had blown away my long red cape
And I feel satisfied, I feel satisfied

My InterpretationI the the red cape here represents a burden or responsibilities that we constantly want to break free from, and at times tie us down.

Also could be a possible refrence to Superman, much like the song by Five For Fighting.

My Interpretationi like this song. not my favorite but it is really good. i love her voice. i think this is about how you can't always be afraid and you have to take a chance. the cape represents a burrden or fear.

General CommentI love priscilla ahns music
this interpretation probably isn't even close to what this song's about... but I think the red cape symbolizes a facade and Priscilla attempting to wear one.
Judging by some of priscillas songs she's a shy lady and I think this song is showing an experience of hers where she tried to be the confident hero type but something made her realize that she contributes by being herself more than being someone she's not.

My InterpretationI've heard this song so many times I just started playing it as background music and quit really listening to the lyrics. Today I clicked it on and I feel like I finally know what it's about. I've been coping with the fear of death recently, and that's what I'm interpreting this song to be about. Take the lyrics literally. The red cape I believe is symbolic of feeling invincible. We all feel that way when we're young, don't we? And then something changes. Some experience reminds of us our mortality. This song, in my humble opinion, is about the shock of having your sense of invincibility ripped away by a near-death experience, and then learning to live with the reality. Eventually, if we're lucky, we find peace. We let it go. We move on and live our life instead of fearing the imminent and ever constant threat of death.

General CommentThere's a lot of reference to me if seems to 9/11. The fact that she should've died in a plane crash and that the plane was flying way to low. I think that the song could be taking the perspective of a first responder who survived because I think the red cape symbolizes a desire to save people like a superhero or a first responder. I think the song tackles the survivors guilt concept very well. Also the reference to the hurricane could be the narrator having a new chance to save people.
