"Sound of Madness" as written by Brent Smith and Dave Bassett....
Yeah, I get it you're an outcast
Always under attack always coming in last
Bringing up the past no one owes you anything
I think you need a shotgun blast a kick in the ass
So paranoid
Watch your back!

Hola, here we go

Another lose cannon, gone bi-polar
Slipped down, couldn't get much lower
Quicksand's got no sense of humor
I'm still laughing like hell
You think that the cryin' to me
Looking so sorry that I'm gonna believe
You've been infected by a social disease
Well, then take your medicine

I created the sound of madness
Wrote the book on pain
Somehow I'm still here to explain
That the darkest hour never comes in the night
You can sleep with a gun
When you gonna wake up and fight?

I'm so sick of this tombstone mentality
If there's an afterlife then it'll set you free
But I'm not gonna part the seas
You're a self-fulfilling prophecy
You think that cryin' to me
Looking so sorry that I'm gonna believe
You've been infected by a social disease
Well, then take your medicine

I created the sound of madness
Wrote the book on pain somehow I'm still here to explain
That the darkest hour never comes in the night
You can sleep with a gun
When you gonna wake up and fight?

For yourself
I created the sound of madness wrote the book on pain
Somehow I'm still here to explain
That the darkest hour never comes in the night
You can sleep with a gun
When you gonna wake up and fight?

I created the sound of madness
Wrote the book on pain somehow I'm still here to explain
That the darkest hour never comes in the night
You can sleep with a gun
When you gonna wake up and fight?
For yourself?
When you gonna wake up and fight, for yourself?
When you gonna wake up and fight, for yourself?
When you gonna wake up and fight, for yourself?
For yourself?

General CommentThis is the song on the album that really caught my attention! It is probably still my favorite song on the album and I see why they titled the album after it! Anyway the reason it really caught my attention is from my work as a nurse on a psychiatric ward. This is what I think... I believe they are referring to an actual social disease (depression is one, but so is bi-polar disorder which is usually much more severe). Many "social diseases" are seriously stigmatized and have links to the ways you grow up (socially isolated, rejected, paranoid, etc.). Sometimes it only takes one thing for a flare up or onset of the disease to occur, "another lose cannon gone bi-polar." Sometimes these individuals feel like nobody understands and have no hope, therefore no sense of humor. Medications help with these disorders, but it requires the individuals determination and will to stay on the medications and other interventions to really recover.

Stop sleeping with a gun, which sounds like the on the verge lifestyle these people live always flirting with suicide, wake up and fight for yourself, is the determination it takes to recover. It seems like the song is saying, I've been there, I've had that disease, but I worked at it and I'm here to tell you about it. It's saying get a swift kick in the ass and get up and help yourself! This may be to literal of an interpretation, but it sounds to me like someone in this group has experienced bi-polar disorder or depression, so it would make some sense to them.
