The story is over,
It's finished, it is done
The dream that you had
Has vanished in the haze

Standing in front
Of the ruin you've built up
Shocked to the bones
And smashed down

When giants fall and angels cry
You know it's hard to save the day

The final word is said and done
The story ends where it began
You have to face the emptiness
There is no way to talk it out
There is no way to work it out

You know that's
When the rain falls down
There is no doubt that you are done
The story ends not yet begun
Come on and face the emptiness
There is no way to hide away
You cannot run you have to stay
Stand still and watch
The rain fall down

The higher you set your goals
The deeper you may fall
Sometimes life
Just isn't fair

You are a restless fighter
You stand up when you fall
Even if you
Can't see it now

The final word is said and done
The story ends where it began
You have to face the emptiness
There is no way to talk it out
There is no way to work it out

You know that's
When the rain falls down
There is no doubt that you are done
The story ends not yet begun
Come on and face the emptiness
There is no way to hide away
You cannot run you have to stay
Stand still and watch
The rain fall down

I'm amazed there are no comments on this absolutely fantastic song. Shame. Less dubstep imo...

Anyhow, what I think this song means is very clear. Sometimes in life you can't get ahead. Sometimes you set your goals so high and they're just so out of reach, that even the very act of striving towards them becomes a niche in the road for you to trip on. In all sincerity, this song heavily, heavily reminds me of my own life.

I have goals and dreams that I want to accomplish; but, I've done so petty little in regards to actually working towards achieving them, that now, nearing my thirties, I'm struggling endlessly to try and chase them down with all sincerity. I've built up staggering layers of failures in my life, both in finance and relationships, only to now look back and "see the ruin I have built". Now, I've lost so much that I have so scant little support from others that it is, essentially, facing the emptiness. I've fallen down, but I'm picking myself back up. I have to prove myself to everyone again in my life.

Needless to say... this song came into my life literally at the exact same moment that I realized all this about myself, so it means a lot to me. So much so, that it's almost a sort of anthem.

"You've failed, have failed, and will fail again. Get up and face it."

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
