"Turn Your Back" as written by Jon Gallant, Aaron Solowoniuk, Ian D'sa and Ben Kowalewicz....
And when the clock strikes 12, tell me where you gonna be?
Cleaning up the mess we've made or watching your TV?
And if you have to ask, then you don't have a clue,
There's snow in Arizona while they're bombing in Beirut!

I hope some day, when I'm dead and gone,
We learn to right, everything that's wrong,
With loving hands, turn sick to strong,
Our time will tell, if life goes on, on, on, on, on

When the storm hits your front door, with a roar you can't ignore,
You run, run, away, but there's no place to hide, mate!
When the days turn into night, you don't got no chance to fight,
'Cause you're too late, so kiss your ass goodbye, mate!

It just don't make no sense, there's a million mouthes to feed,
We got military action over monetary need
And you can turn your back, or you can plant the seed
You can choose compassion over universal greed

I hope some day, when I'm dead and gone,
We learn to right, everything that's wrong,
With loving hands, turn sick to strong,
Our time will tell, if life goes on, on, on, on, on

When the storm hits your front door, with a roar you can't ignore,
You run, run, away but there's no place to hide, mate!
When the days turn into night, you don't got no chance to fight,
Cause you're too late, so kiss your ass goodbye, mate!

And you can turn your back, but it won't go away
And you don't look scared, but you should be afraid
You can shut your mouth, but you still have a say
And you just don't care, for tomorrow, today

And you can turn your back, but it won't go away
And you don't look scared, but you should be afraid
You can shut your mouth, but you still have a say
And you just don't care, for tomorrow, today

Well no way, way
No way, no way, no way, no way!

When the storm hits your front door, with a roar you can't ignore,
You run, run, away, but there's no place to hide, mate!
When the days turn into night, you don't got no chance to fight,
Cause you're too late, so kiss your ass goodbye, mate!

My InterpretationAlthough many of you seem to think this is like Red Flag, i think its very different, in the sense that this seems to me more like a call to activism.
As for the lyrics, they seem to come from the Billy Talent + Antiflag version found at
    youtube.com/…

And when the clock strikes 12, tell me where you gonna be?
-- In the sense of 'tomorrow, what will you be doing?'

Cleaning up the mess we've made or watching your T.V.
-- Trying to change things or just keep being a bystander to the reality, watching it from your tv (or Yahoo homepage, youtube, other media sources)

And if you have to ask, then you don't have a clue,
-- If you dont understand the above lines, then you'll probably keep ignoring the problems

There's snow in Arizona while they're bombing in Beirut
-- The global warming and weather changes are causing problems throughout the world that threaten all of us, but they (governments) rather spend money on war. Beirut refers to when Israel destroyed Lebanon. But if written in the light of more recent events could very well have been Irak, Kaboul (Afghanistan)

I hope some day... when i'm dead and gone,
-- He hopes that when hes dead, because it probably wont happen in his lifetime

We learned to right... everything that's wrong,
-- Humans will wake up, and make the needed changes to society so it become more rational

With loving hands... turn sick to strong,
-- Helping the sick become healthy, stronger, out of being nice and not for the money

Our time will tell... if life goes on...on...on, on, on
-- we will see if we exterminate ourselves or not in the near future. Near future could be 200 years, which is nothing in the sands of time

When the storm hits your front door, with a roar you can't ignore....
-- When the crysis' (global warming, pandemics, lack of water) you wont be able to ignore it because it will affect you. The double meaning would be a storm of bombs for countries at war.

Ya run, run, away! but there's no place to hide, mate!
-- You can try to run from it, but it will always catch up with you.

When the days turn into night, you don't got no chance to fight...
-- When you realize it and it catches up to you, it will seem like a nightmare, and you wont be able to wake up from it

'Cause you're too late! so kiss your ass goodbye, mate!
-- because you tried to run instead of fixing the problem, your time is counted.

It just don't make no sense, there's a million mouths to feed
-- a million mouths to feed refers to poverty, but no ones trying to help out

We got military action over monetary need
-- but billions are spend on war and near to nothing on humanity

And you can turn your back, or you can plant the seed
-- you can keep doing nothing, or you can start something

You can choose compassion over universal greed
-- you can choose to hog your money or try to give a bit to help

    --chorus--
I hope some day... when i'm dead and gone,
We learned to right... everything that's wrong,
With loving hands... turn sick to strong,
Our time will tell... if life goes on...on...on, on, on

When the storm hits your front door, with a roar you can't ignore....
Ya run, run, away! but there's no place to hide, mate!
When the days turn into night, you don't got no chance to fight...
'Cause you're too late! so kiss your ass goodbye, mate!
    --end chorus--

And you can turn your back... but it won't go away
-- you can ignore the problems, theyll still be there

And you don't look scared... but you should be afraid
-- you might not worry but the current state of the world is something to worry about

You can shut your mouth... but you still have a say
-- you might not be an activist, but you can still vote

And you just don't care... for tomorrow, today
-- its also possible that the future of our world doesnt bother you right now

Well no way-a-ay! way-a-ay!... no way, no way, no way, now way-a-ay!
-- well dont be that way!

    --chorus--
When the storm hits your front door, with a roar you can't ignore....
Ya run, run, away! but there's no place to hide, mate!
When the days turn into night, you don't got no chance to fight...
'Cause you're too late! so kiss your ass goodbye, mate!
    --chorus--

General CommentThis song is a political song with a same general idea as Red Flag. To summarize quickly:

The question is, are we going to do something about the world, or pretend it's all fine and dandy? We could take a stand and try to help, or forget all about it and shove the issue under the rug.

To turn the state of the earth around, it has to be more than a portion of the world. It has to be a great percent of the world to do this. And if we don't? There will be nowhere to hide. It's not like something happening in one small place. It's the WORLD. We have to do something.

That's the effect I get from it. Oh, and nobody say that these lyrics are incorrect... I took them from Ian from another site. :P And the lyrics are subject to change, and, according to rumors, may have some Anti-Flag guest vocals thrown in. (Or maybe that's on another song on the new record.)

But, all in all... very nice lyrics. They still manage to rock my world.

General CommentThe lyrics don't sound incorrect.

And I agree with Fallen Leaves, it's definatly a political song

"I hope some day... when i'm dead and gone,
We learned to right... everything that's wrong,
With loving hands... turn sick to strong"
I think thats basically a way of saying most people are just sitting there thinking "well, someone else will sort it out. Some other generation will do it for us, my kids, their kids, their kids ect. I'm just gonna lay back and do nothing." proving how lazy and selfish the world can be.

"Our time will tell... if life goes on...on...on, on, on"
But thats saying, if thats what we do, just sit back and wait for someone else, will the world survive long enough for someone else to come along and take the problems off our hands? If we carry on this way, will the humans race survive?

Well, thats my view anyway. Can't wait for the new album. Would be so awesome to have Anti-Flag guest vocals. I just hope BT don't go too political.

And, in case anyone else didn't know, the band isn't even sure if this song is going to show up on the third record at all.

General CommentMmh i thought the lyrics were right.

But what does this have to do with redflag? red flag is about total and utter rebellion.
The name reflects what its about Its about people who turn their back on the world, their country, the society.
"And when the clock strikes 12, tell me where you gonna be?
Cleaning up the mess we've made or watching your T.V."
Its about the differences between people who choose to turn their back and only care about themselves compared to the kind of people who'll help society, even though it has nothing to do against them they care for others.

Nothing to do with redflag. v.v

General CommentTurn Your Back has the perspective of, "The world's a mess; if you turn your back, you're screwed. You need to do something."

Red Flag has the perspective of,"We'd better do something before the world is beyond repair."

I think the two songs' meanings are very similar, except Turn Your Back's song is in a further state of despair.

General CommentI think the first line is probably referring to the minutes until midnight in the countdown to the third and last world war, as in when the world dissolves into chaos are you just going to watch it unfold on your television or actually do something about it?
