"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Black dress with the tights underneath
I've got the breath of the last cigarette on my teeth
And she's an actress, but she ain't got no need
She's got money from parents in a trust fund back east
Ta-ta-ta-tongues always pressed to your cheeks
While my tongue is on the inside of some other girl's teeth
Tell your boyfriend if he says he's got beef
That I'm a vegetarian and I ain't fucking scared of him
She wants to touch me, wahoo
She wants to love me, wahoo
She'll never leave me, wahoo, wahoo hoo hoo
Don't trust a ho
Never trust a ho
Won't trust a ho
Because the ho won't trust me
She wants to touch me, wahoo
She wants to love me, wahoo
She'll never leave me, wahoo, wahoo hoo hoo
Don't trust a ho
Never trust a ho
Won't trust a ho
Because the ho won't trust me
X's on the back of your hands
Washed them in the bathroom to drink like the bands
And the set list you stole off the stage
Has red and purple lipstick all over the page
Bra-bra-bra-bruises cover your arms
Shaking in the fingers with the bottle in your palm
And the best is, no one knows who you are
Just another girl alone at the bar
She wants to touch me, wahoo
She wants to love me, wahoo
She'll never leave me, wahoo, wahoo hoo hoo
Don't trust a ho
Never trust a ho
Won't trust a ho
Because the ho won't trust me
She wants to touch me, wahoo
She wants to love me, wahoo
She'll never leave me, wahoo, wahoo hoo hoo
Don't trust a ho
Never trust a ho
Won't trust a ho
Because the ho won't trust me
Shush girl, shut your lips
Do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips
I said shush girl, shut your lips
Do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips
I said shush girl, shut your lips
Do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips
She wants to touch me, wahoo

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
HAHAHAHAAH OMG. this is so horribly annoying, that i have to laugh at it. a girl @ MY SHOOL WON'T STOP PLAYING THIS. Honestly? how can you people stand to hear this shit. it piss me off that this has nearly 300 comments, when there are so many TALENTED bands that can't get a single post. ... anyway, thats enough queer bashing. for the moment anyway...
Alright, from your name, I'm going to guess you're a metal fan. No question there. And I am too. I grew up on bands like Iron Maiden, Slayer, and Lamb of God. And if I were just one year younger, I would have said the same thing you did. And I'm 15 so you can get an idea of who I am. I understand what you're saying, but first of all, please don't post on lyrics just to make fun of them. In fact, I'm still in question to why you even clicked on the page. But people listen to music to express their emotions. And even if the lyrics don't make sense or are vulgar or anything else, it's the music they like. (Ask anyone, half of the songs they like, their answer to why will most likely be "I just like the beat/rhythm/tune/etc.) So even if you don't like it, that's because metal, (If that's the only music you listen to) is your style. I still like metal the most, but when my girlfriend insisted that I listen to 3Oh!3, I decided they're not so bad. I'm not just replying to make you look like a dick, but because people learn by "mistakes". (I put that in quotations so you don't get offended by my way of explaining your fault) If you even consider this a mistake if you read this, hopefully you will learn from this and not make a big deal about what kind of music people listen to. Please read, reply, and tell me whether you're pissed at me or you realize that I'm right.
By the way, I'm sorry for giving you this whole lecture, and not the rest of these negative posters... It's just I looked at the latest few posts and saw yours. So don't get mad about that.
First of all let me just say, thank you. im not mad im actually rather happy about your comment. you left a sincere intelligent comment inste4ad of just telling me to eat shit and die. i know that i shouldnt leave comments like that. but there are some many like that on all the metal boards that i just got mad and left one on this band. music is different to everyone. you like this AND metal and ill respect that. so again, thanks for leaving a decent and intelligent message.
Alright, good to see you're not an idiot too. :) And that's fine. I'm not trying to make a life changing conversation, and if I didn't think it would be rude to just not reply again, I don't think I even need to say anything here. Carry on with whatever you do!
Talent comes in many different forms...if this band is talented enough to get over 300 comments about just ONE of their songs, then you probably shouldn't be talking.

Furthermore, who are YOU to dictate what "real music" is? I may dislike popular culture, but I dislike judgmental bastards like you even more.
well 2 loverly, i already explained myself, but i will leave one final comment on my thoughts. Music in my opinion, is something u create, and you express emotion through. this is nothing more than some electronica synth beats that someone made on their computer. theres no real instruments, therefore, example one of no talent, second i disagree with u, i dont think that this shows any emotion. its just some pop scene douchebags, who made up some ryhmes about sex. Pop in general, at least all that ive heard, is the same. computer noise behind some semi-catchy and usually dirty, ryhmes. thats y i dont listn to it. i like metal, wich in my and many others opinion is the most difficult of generes because good metal requires extreme skill and talent to produce, from the guitars, to the drums, to the screaming or the crooning. while most people, like you i assume, think of it as random violent screaming, if u actually listen, it can offer some of the most emotional, thoght-provoking moments of your life.

and 2 answer your question, Please explain how a bunch of people saying "Its about bangin hoes!" (roughly 250 of the 285 comments) justifys talent.

This will be my last post, because im just adding to the comments of a band who does not deserve it.
dude I have to agree with you and say that this 'band' really does suck. They are way overplayed and their lyrics are way too shallow. It's annoying how everyone loves them. I personally think they have no talent whatsoever and they only have a band for publicity. They don't actually have a passion for it, which is bullshit because there are a ton of bands with a fiery passion for music that have amazing talent that don't make it big because of jerks like these guys thinking it's all about orgies and shit. I hate that. They take over and fill kids minds with crap like every chick out there is a ho. Whatever. Well that's my input haha.
By the way, MetalMartyr. You should let me in on some of the metal you listen to. I'm looking for some new stuff to listen to and metal is next on my list. =] peace, love, robots.
