Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum (what's wrong with me?)
Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum (why do I feel like this?)
Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum (I'm going crazy now)
Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum

No more gas in the rig
Can't even get it started
Nothing heard, nothing said
Can't even speak about it
Out my life, out my head
Don't want to think about it
Feels like I'm going insane, yeah

It's a thief in the night to come and grab you (uh-huh)
It can creep up inside you and consume you (uh-huh)
A disease of the mind, it can control you (uh-huh)
It's too close for comfort, ohh

Put on your break lights
We're in the city of wonder
Ain't gonna play nice
Watch out, you might just go under
Better think twice
Your train of thought will be altered
So if you must falter be wise

Your mind's in disturbia
It's like the darkness is the light
Disturbia
Am I scaring you tonight?
Your mind is in disturbia
Ain't used to what you like
Disturbia
Disturbia

Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum
Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum
Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum
Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum

Faded pictures on the wall
It's like they talkin' to me
Disconnectin' all calls
Your phone don't even ring
I gotta get out
Or figure this shh out
It's too close for comfort, oh-ohh

It's a thief in the night to come and grab you (uh-huh)
It can creep up inside you and consume you (uh-huh)
A disease of the mind, it can control you (uh-huh)
I feel like a monster, ohh

Put on your break lights
We're in the city of wonder (city of lights)
Ain't gonna play nice
Watch out (ohh), you might just go under
Better think twice (think twice)
Your train of thought will be altered
So if you must falter be wise (be wise)

Your mind's in disturbia
It's like the darkness is the light
Disturbia
Am I scaring you (oh) tonight?
Your mind's in disturbia (oh)
Ain't used to what you like
Disturbia (what you like)
Disturbia

Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum (ba-da-da-da-dee-da)
Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum (ba-da-da-da-dee-da)
Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum (disturbia)
Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum (oh, oh)

Release me from this curse I'm in
Trying to maintain but I'm struggling
If you can't go
I think I'm going to oh, oh, oh, oh-ohh

Put on your break lights
We're in the city of wonder (woo)
Ain't gonna play nice
Watch out, you might just go under
Better think twice
Your train of thought will be altered
So if you must falter be wise

Your mind's in disturbia
It's like the darkness is the light
Disturbia
Am I scaring you tonight?
Your mind's in disturbia
Ain't (distubria) used to what you like
Disturbia
Disturbia

Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum (ba-da-da-da-dee-da)
Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum (ba-da-da-da-dee-da)
Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum
Bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum (ohh-ohh)

I think it's a warning to those who want to be in the entertainment business, that things can make you change: "It's a thief in the night, to come and grab you"

and the good things(fame) aren't what they seem: "It's like the darkness is the light".

And also about not letting yourself change: "Watch out, you might just go under Better think twice Your train of thought will be altered So if you must faulter be wise "

And she sings about being careful, to turn on the break: "Throw on your break lights, it's the city of wonder" And the city of wonder might mean Hollywood..

That's what I think anyway, but I think this song has many meanings, and it means different things to different people..

    Song Meaning

Interesting opinions about the meaning. I personally see it (because of the video) that one of the meanings of the song is related to the deep, dark thoughts and fears in the recesses of our minds. Those disturbing thoughts that can creep up out of seemingly nowhere and really torment a person; in extreme cases to taking reckless or dangerous actions. Mostly though we all have such thoughts that might come up in the nights for example and rob us of our peace and comfort. Taking it all more metaphorically it's about both possession and also controlling oneself. It's about those disturbing ideas that we think we'd like to act upon, and also about rational and irrational fears that possess us.

To me this song represents being controlled or dangerously obsessed by something. I feel this way with my storylines, since I'm a writer. Most of them are horrors and when I get an idea, I feel trapped and suffocated in my mind for however long I keep the story going. Sometimes the feeling never leaves. I'm pretty much a wreck by now, haha, and most of the time my mind is just in a controlled and disturbed state.

Which is why I really like this song. It means a lot to me.

I think it's about a break up. She's upset & can't stop thinking about it.

"Faded pictures on the wall It's like they talkin' to me Disconnectin' your call Your phone don't even ring I gotta get out Or figure this shit out It's too close for comfort "

"Release me from this curse I'm trying to remain tame But I'm struggling You can't go, go, go I think I'm going to oh, oh, oh"

my take on this song is kinda different..

"What's wrong with me? Why do I feel like this? I'm going crazy now" ^ she took some sort of drug. lol. seriously.

"No more gas in the rig Can't even get it started" ^ she wants to escape or stop from what shes doing, but she cant. her 'car' cant start because it has no gas.

"Nothing heard, nothing said Can't even speak about it" ^ she doesn't tell anybody and no one asks her about it all

"Out my life out my head Don't want to think about it Feels like I'm going insane" ^ going crazy because its making her something she doesnt want to be

"It's a thief in the night To come and grab you" ^ the 'addiction' will unexpectadly take hold and doesn't give you a chance

"It can creep up inside you And consume you A disease of the mind It can control you It's too close for comfort" ^ pretty self explanatory with what i'm going on about

"Put on your BRAKE lights We're in the city of wonder" ^ shes trying to enjoy herself now (while on the drug). you BRAKE with your CAR BRAKES in a city to either slow down or enjoy the scenary. i hate that all these lyrics have the misspelling.

"Ain't gonna play nice Watch out, you might just go under" ^ you could get carried away in the other world

"Better think twice Your train of thought will be altered" ^ don't lose yourself in the experience or else you'll change who you are

"So if you must faulter be wise Your mind is in disturbia" ^ be careful, but if its too late, you're in disturbia..

"It's like the darkness is the light" ^ things obviously aren't normal if darkness is the light..

"Am I scaring you tonight Ain't used to what you like" ^ almost PROVING this is not about your normal relationship or depression. its something more, of course you don't want to hear its about a drug addiction or abuse

"Faded pictures on the wall It's like they talkin' to me" ^ tripping out lol pictures on the wall talking to you? come on.. gotta be..

"Disconnectin' phone calls The phone don't even ring I gotta get out Or figure this shit out It's too close for comfort" ^ she cannot call anyone or get any help from anyone she knows, shes stuck where she is and has to help herself..

I feel like a monster ^ she feels like something she doesn't want to be.. not herself at all

"Release me from this curse I'm in Trying to remain tame But I'm struggling" ^ crying out for help for the last time, she cant do it on her own

"If you can go, go, go" ^ saying to get away while you still can, without losing yourself

"I think I'm going to oh, oh, oh" ^ she knows that she's going to lose it now.. hence going to the "brake lights part"

yup. think outside the box people. depression and relationships? come on. lol.. just joking.

...This is sometimes how it feels to be bipolar 1. At least from my personal experience. Even with mood stabilizing meds, the breakthrough gives this emotional state of mind. It is a very unsettling.. aggitated, insane, paranoid, distorted, and are very confusing emotions to experience. Reality becomes something extremely distant and almost unobtainable. And yes, it would be interesting to hear the insight of the artist.

I think it's about the apocalypse.

"for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night." - 1 Thessalonians 5:2

"God is a consuming fire." - Hebrews 12:29

"For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness." - 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12

Sorry this is long. It's worth reading. I promise you. I'm SURE this is it. Sleep paralysis. You guys have suggested insanity/panic attack. Sleep paralysis is when the mind is half asleep and half awake. You can see all the dream image but you are still awake. Here, I'll explain my view of the lyrics- Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum bum (What's wrong with me?) Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum bum (Why do I feel like this?) Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum bum (I'm going crazy now) Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum bum

No more gas in the rig Can't even get it started(You can't move at all in sleep paralysis, SP from now on. Your body is completely paralyzed.) Nothing heard, nothing said Can't even speak about it(Because you can't move in SP you can't speak. Your mind may also block out noises so you don't hear any 'real' sounds.) All my life on my head Don't want to think about it Feels like I'm going insane(After SP you feel crazy and whatnot, wondering why all this happened.) Yeah

It's a thief in the night To come and grab you(This is what got me. Most people report a presence in the room. It's mostly evil. To some people it's the grim reaper or devils, to others it's thieves/rapists/murderers) It can creep up inside you And consume you A disease of the mind It can control you It's too close for comfort(It's really creepy. And I mean REALLY F**&EN CREEPY)

Throw on your break lights We're in the city of wonder Ain't gonna play nice(You can hallucinate during it, hence, city of wonder.) Watch out, you might just go under(I might just be thinking too literally here, but some people also report feeling like they're being pulled under their bed.) Better think twice Your train of thought will be altered So if you must faulter be wise Your mind is in disturbia(AKA, SP :P) It's like the darkness is the light(you may hallucinate as if it was light) Disturbia Am I scaring you tonight(and she scared the s#*t outta me.) Your mind is in disturbia Ain't used to what you like Disturbia Disturbia

Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum bum Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum bum Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum bum Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum bum

Faded pictures on the wall It's like they talkin' to me(Every time I went into SP there where 'faded' pictures on every surface.) Disconnectin' your call Your phone don't even ring I gotta get out Or figure this shit out(If it happens to you trust you WILL want out.) It's too close for comfort

Release me from this curse I'm trying to remain tame But I'm struggling(SP is often described as though something has put a curse on you so you can't move. Waiting through it doing nothing is how to get through it, though every time it has happened to me I ended up struggling like all hell to get out)

The first time I heard this song was on the same day I had another bout of SP. I was staying up listening to music cus I was scared to go to sleep. It really did scare the living cr#p outta me. Enough to make an account here just to post this. I'm not gonna sleep tonight :P

Well I am trying to get out of a relationship with a man who is Bi polar, delusional, seemingly schitzo, and this song fits the situation and my mind frame perfectly.

His obsession with me, and my caring for him which has turned into an obsession, all came out and took over my life, like a thief in the night. My life was turned upside down. He is passionate, intense, paranoid, and downright scary and violent sometimes. The things I have been through in the past week are worse than things I have seen in movies.

It's like a drug, and I am going crazy. I am changing and scaring myself. My mind is in disturbia. The worst part is knowing something must be wrong with me to connect so tightly to someone like him. I am scary, like a monster!

I think the song is about falling in love with a pyschopath, and losing your mind trying to get out.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
