"The Night" as written by and David/donegan Draiman....
What has come over me
What madness taken hold of my heart
To run away, the only answer
Pulling me away
To run upon my sight
So now recovering
Sweet shadow taking hold of my mind
Another day has been devoured
Calling me away, bringing the question
Why

For saving me from all they've taken
Let my honor fall again
Giving me the strength to face them
Feeling it taking over now
I'm about to take it all away
There can be no better way of knowing

In a world beyond controlling
Are you going to deny the savior
In front of your eyes?
Stare into the night
Power beyond containing
Are you going to remain a slave for
The rest of your life?
Give into the night

This self-discovery
Redemption taking hold of my mind
This serenade of haunting voices
Calling me away
To piece from the sight
So much felicity
Downgrade and taking hold of my head
Leading me away from hibernation
Strong and I'm unafraid
Never a question why

For saving me from all they've taken
Let my honor fall again
Giving me the strength to face them
Feeling it taking over now
I'm about to take it all away
There can be no better way of knowing

In a world beyond controlling
Are you going to deny the savior
In front of your eyes?
Stare into the night
Power beyond containing
Are you going to remain a slave for
The rest of your life?
Give into the night

Give in to the night

In a world beyond controlling
Are you going to deny the savior
In front of your eyes?
Stare into the night
Power beyond containing
Are you going to remain a slave for
The rest of your life?
Give into the night

Night, night, night
Give into the night
Night, night, night
Give into the night

Give into the night

General CommentI think the night either refers to the darkness within or to the dark night of the soul. "Are you going to remain a slave for the rest of your life? Give into the night" is a way of saying that the only choice is to face the darkness or turn back and succumb to conformity.

Anybody who has devoted themselves to becoming their own person knows that the road is not paved, there is no indication of where it begins or ends, and there is no place to rest. It eventually becomes easier but there will inevitably be a time of confusion when a shadow blocks out the sun. If you fear the night you will stumble and die. If you embrace the darkness with resolve you will eventually find the light. This song embodies the moment of truth when the fate of one's soul hangs in the balance. "Are you gonna deny the savior in front of your eyes? Give into the night." This, to me, speaks of clarity within the confusion and a willingness to bear the weight of one's choices. Freedom is worth any pain or struggle one incurs along the way.

My InterpretationI think this song is about facing the darkness within.

Mark Twain once said "Every person is a moon, with a dark side which he never shows to anybody." There is darkness in every person, but we spend so much time trying to deny it and fight against it that we waste our lives in the process. The darkness is part of us, so without it, we can never be whole, destined to spend our lives searching for what we are missing because we can't believe that what we are missing is that other piece of ourselves that we are so desperate to deny.

I believe this song is about accepting that darkness within yourself in order to find salvation. It's about yin and yang, about finding harmony within the balance between good and evil, love and hate, light and darkness. It's about embracing the darkness within, in order to walk in the light.

General CommentMy interpretation of this song is someone trying to become their own person and decide for themselves what they want to be and trying to resist the pressure from outside sources to conform to their beliefs.

General CommentThis song is kick ass! It is one of my favorites on the new CD! I really can relate b/c I am trying to find the real me right now, but my family pressures me to be something else sometimes.

I totally agree with lakajj about the song being about someone trying to become their own person.

    Great song!

General CommentSorry, I realize I messed up one of the lyrics I quoted: "Are you gonna deny the savior in front of your eyes? Stare into the night"

General CommentJust a quick lyrics correction

It's actually "Letting my ARMOR fall again" instead of honor...

For me, the best song by Disturbed, it has grown into me like no other getting to my top 4 songs ever!

General CommentThis song could also just be about giving into the power of the night. Like a person is being tempted to and is torn about becoming a vampire/lycanthrope. This is probably a quest for revenge for some wrong commited and the one who suffered is being told that they can have power beyond containing if they give into the power that comes with the night and being a creature assosiated with it.

Though I agree about the conformity issue being what the song is about I just thought I'd give another possible meaning ^^

General CommentThe night doesn't have to refer to something dark, it could just mean something unexplored and therefore unknown, like this person's inner self.

My Interpretationi think it is talking about someone standing up against oppression "are you going to deny the savior in front of you". This person is seen by the norm as a bad person or a shady character "the night" but this person is standing up for them selves and others "giving me the strength to face them"
