I’ve been waiting for my dreams
To turn into something

I could believe in
And looking for that
Magic rainbow
On the horizon
I couldn’t see it
Until I let go
Gave into love and watched all the bitterness burn
Now I’m coming alive
Body and soul
And feelin’ my world start to turn

And I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time
To be more than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life

Holding onto things that vanished
Into the air
Left me in pieces
But now I’m rising from the ashes
Finding my wings
And all that I needed
Was there all along
Within my reach
As close as the beat of my heart

So I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life

And I’m out on the edge of forever
Ready to run
I’m keeping my feet on the ground
My arms open wide
My face to the sun

I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
This is the time
This is the time of my life.
This is the time of my life.

Agree wholeheartedly about the cheesiness factor, but hey, he didn't have much of a choice did he? David Cook's always been pretty independent, i don't think he'll meekly follow the label. i can't wait for his album. Finally, a rocker idol.

sometimes what comes from the heart doesn't have to make sense to others, as long as it is what you truly feel. so what if society has hardened your heart so much that you feel that one person's symbol of hope is 'gay'. he has opened his heart with this song and because of that, he is able to see the world in a new light with happiness and joy for his success both in his own heart and in his career.

Gawd you guys what is wrong with this world. What's wrong with talking about a rainbow? It's a beautiful aspect of nature. Why is it being called girly or people are cringing at it? Appreciate it for what it REALLY is not what the fucking society makes it out to be. Vibrant colors are beautiful. Geezus how shallow are people these days. This song kicks ass AND I LIKE THE LINE.

very glad that David Cook won Idol. Not so glad that he is now burdened with this cheesy song as his first single. As a huge David Cook fan, hearing him singing about magic rainbows on the horizon is dissapointing. Hope the Idol producers who now own his soul allow him to make the rock record he's supposed to make and steer clear of bubble gum pop.

Wow. Uhm, as much as I adore Cook's voice...magic rainbows? Seriously?

I get the general idea of the song. It's basically saying what the title says, that this time in your life is the best. However, the 'magic rainbow' thing just throws it for me. He makes it as believable as he possibly could, I guess, and even the rainbow line doesn't seem so endearingly cheesetastic. Had a couple of the lines in this song been changed to something a little more gripping and a little less girly, it might actually be decent.

Cook winning is a mixed bag for me. I'm glad he won, since I have felt that he deserved to for many weeks, but at the same time, now he gets saddled with this piece. Most any rocker would flinch at the idea of having a song mentioning magic rainbows in his or her discography. Here's hoping that the Idol producers don't continue to screw him over from here on out.

The magic rainbow line makes me cringe... Hopefully his album will be the way he wants it to be and not as cheesy.

well, he didn't write this song so that kind of relieves me. wasn't it some song writing contest people entered for the winning song? something like that.

it's still pretty fun to listen and sing along to. i think it pretty well does describe his journey trough AI.

i'm from NE and he auditioned in omaha so i was rooting for him all the way! c:

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
