take my love
take my land
take me where I cannot stand
I don't care
I'm still free
you can't take the sky from me

take me out to the black
tell 'em I ain't coming back
burn the land
and boil the sea
you can't take the sky from me

have no place I can be
since I found Serenity
but you can't take the sky from me

General CommentIn terms of the show, yes, it is specifically talking about the sky. But more than that, you can take away everything from a man: the land, the sea, etc, but you cannot take the man away from himself, whomever that man is.

General CommentCan't believe nobody else has posted. Am I the only Browncoat out here?

Anyway. This is the theme from the science fiction TV show Firefly. The main character, Mal, is the captain of a spaceship called Serenity. He fought on the Independent (losing) side of a war for independence, and in the new world controlled by the Alliance, he has lost everything he held most dear. However, nobody can take his freedom.

General CommentYou're not the only Browncoat!

This song has always been one of my favorites. It's beautiful, meaningful, and reminds me of Firefly (obviously, haha). The simple message of the song is that you can take away everything but the sky. How sweet. I love it!
