Wake up on your own
And look around you 'cause you?re not alone
Release your high hopes and they?ll survive
'cause this is the future and you are alive

Dive in and swim away
From your loneliness and miserable days

And when you wake up on your own
Look around you 'cause you?re not alone
Let your hopes go and they?ll survive
'cause this is the future and you are alive
?You?re headed home

how has no one written about this one!? i love it. it reminds me of someone i know pretty well; they tend to be self destructive through their actions and the situations they put themselves in, and they never think they can do anything right, when i know for a fact they could do whatever they put their mind to. I want to sing this to them when they get down, its a very inspirational and centered song that makes everything wrong seem correctable and not such a big deal.

Wake up on your own -You have to learn to do things yourself, you can't depend on other people. And look around you cuz youre not alone -No matter what someone will ALWAYS be there. Release your high hopes and theyll survive -Learn to let go of things. Cuz this is the future and you are alive -Today is today, and no matter what happens, your alive, and you should enjoy that.

Dive in and swim away From your loneliness and miserable days -learn to forget about all the bad things,

And when you wake up on your own Look around you cuz youre not alone Let your hopes go and theyll survive Cuz this is the future and you are alive Youre headed home -basically the same thing above, except for the headed home part.

i think when he's saying to let your hopes go and they'll survive, he means that really the only way to get where you want to be, is to take chances, and no matter what chances you take, your hopes will ALWAYS be there.

and when he's saying your headed home, i think he's saying that 'home' is the place/time when you are truely happy. i think this song is BEAUTIFUL(: bravo Adam. your lyrics are truely inspiring(:

This song means so much to me.
Sometimes I feel like giving up, then this song reminds me that not everything is bound to crash. Some hopes will survive. (:

Adam Young gave me a whole new perspective on music, he's so incredible.
There are no words to describe somebody so amazing as him.

    Song Meaning

I love how everyone has interpreted this song so many different ways; I'm sure that was partly intended by Adam also. So I will share this song means to me. (Coming from a Christian point of view.)

"Wake up on your own And look around you cuz you're not alone" -This means, in my opinion, that you need to wake up and get back to reality and realize that you're never alone, because God is always there and will never leave your side.

"Release your high hopes and they'll survive Cuz this is the future and you are alive" -I interpret this as relating to prayer. "Ask and you shall receive"-type thing. Pray to God, and ask God for things, and the outcome will always be good, whether its how you planned it or not. & Thank God that you are alive. You are SO blessed to be here.

"Dive in and swim away From your loneliness and miserable days" -Forget about the past, focus on the future. (God has already forgiven you, if you ask him to.)

-And, obviously the same as above, except:

"Cuz this is the future and you are alive You're headed home" -I think the last paragraph here, where it repeats the first is kind of like you have now accepted Christ and be thankful for you life you have here. You are on the path to Heaven.

    My Interpretation

"Wake up on your own And look around you cuz youre not alone"

Obviously about someone who feels like they're dealing with hard times alone when in reality they have have people around him/her who care

"Release your high hopes and theyll survive Cuz this is the future and you are alive"

Tellin said person that their dreams we'll live on as long as they try, and to wake up and realize they still have a life to live and it's not so bad after all

"Dive in and swim away From your loneliness and miserable days"

let go of your problems and move on

    I love this song. <3

I think this song should be a part of "To Write Love On Her Arms." because the line, "Cuz this is the future and you are alive." That's helped me, and I think it can help everyone. :)

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
