This song, like all other Owl City songs, is one that I truly love. To me, it's about how each day (AKA, the shuttle bus) is a new adventure - you don't know where it's going to take you, and you have to be excited about that. You have to let whatever happens happen, and just sit back and enjoy the ride. This reminds me of Carpe Diem, or whatever that Latin phrase is that means "Seize the day!"

I think that this song depicts different aspects of his life.

This bit shows his fast paced and adventurous lifestyle, eager to see different things and hes not afraid to explore and try new things out. It could also be that he's running from other things and wants to get his mind off of them.

"I'd ask but we don't know How far these interstates go Or how deep the city routes go down In chilly subdepth railways The weathered concrete stairways Provide me with the means of getting home If I ever leave"

I think this is where he knows he loves this cityscape and his fast paced life but he also wants his loved ones, which he cant get to in this area. He wants to see them but cant bare to leave this place he is in, either geographically or mentally.

"So many sights to see So wake up like an early birdie And we?ll get a head start on the day Oh, stained glass skyways And crowded six lane highways If I look back when I begin to leave Will they remember me?"

Hes taking the innitiative to almost leave the place hes in and to join his other friends. Everything is still so fast paced and he longs to return home but he frets that his life will change and he wont be able to get back to where his is if he leaves.

"Circuit flights bend the light when I am spent And tour guides make happy brides through heaven soon"

Hes decided to return home, albeit still nervous. Booking flights and checking out accomodation relax him and put him to rest.

Hes returning home and eager to see this home of his, loved ones that await.

On crystal sand we sleep hand in hand While soothing words hover like humming birds

(Side note: I LOVE these lines) Hes home and at ease with the ones he loves. He hardly has to speak to communicate the relief he feels. The crystal sand may refer to the precarious state of mind he still holds.

Hes simply looking for a new guide, a new direction, of which he can still hold his loved ones

Ahh i love this song! it's so happy and it just makes me wanna dance.. especially the synthesizer break that reminds me of mario. definitely one of my fav owl city songs. adam young is a musical genius.

This song is pretty obvious on what it's about. The speaker is going on trips which he doesn't make often, and is cognizant about the fact that there's always more to see and that you can't possibly see everything. As he goes on yet another one of his trips, he greets the bus taking him, appreciating the transportation. When he arrives to his destination, he tells his company that travels with him to make sure to wake up early. The days go by fast(a recurring theme I guess. See Fireflies, as he wishes the world would spin slower). Throughout his trip he appreciates the tour guides for making everything easier.

For me, this song is about a belief in a future "chic transportation" and seizing the day. "Good evening, shuttle bus! Tell me where you're going to take us?" I'm graduating soon and I know something good will happen, but I'm not sure exactly what yet. "Weathered concrete stairways." What takes us higher with all the bumps and bruises along the way of the strongly upheld/supported "concrete" path to our next destination or "the chilly sub-depth railways." "Tour guides make happy brides feel heaven-sent" The mentors that help me out along the way.

i've read a lot into this song to see exactly what it's about. most of the comments i have read talk about how this song stands for someone's childhood and when he sleeps it takes him back to his childhood. i completely disagree. i know it's long but i broke down each part of the song.

in my opinion the song fireflies is about a guy who can not get over a girl. i thought maybe they broke up and he was w. another girl to get over the girl he loved but my idea makes complete sense.

means: when he sleeps he dreams of her and you wouldn't believe that a million fireflies lit up the world b.c you wouldn't believe what he's dreaming of and how amazing it would be, which is why he'd just stare in amazement at her/fireflies.

means: he wants to tell himself that the world is still turning while he's sleeping and dreaming about her b.c it's just another day that goes by w.o her that he has to get over her. yet, it's hard for him to say that he'd rather be awake b.c he doesn't want to be b.c to him sleeping is better b.c he's dreaming of her and when he's awake it's not how it seems in his dreams b.c he's not w. her.

means: lighting bugs, close to fireflies but not the same term, people or other girls helping him try to get over the girl(firefly) w. hugs ect. i also think that the things about his head and under his bed are just random things to him trying to say his world is all over the place. and the disco ball would be something older (the past relationship) is hanging by a thread b.c he's slowly losing her more and more each day.

means: someone's door open is inviting to others (why most people sleep w. their door closed) he's inviting her back into his life. he feels like he can't sleep to be able to dream of her and he gets tired of dreaming about what he lost and doesn't have anymore b.c it's not enough anymore. and please take me away from here would mean he doesn't want to be where he's at in his life right now b.c he's not w. the one he wants to be w.

To Ten Million Fireflies I'm Weird Cause I Hate Goodbyes I Got Misty Eyes As They Said Farewell But I'll Know Where Several Are If My Dreams Get Real Bizzare Cause I Saved A Few And I Keep Them In A Jar

means: he doesn't like when people leave or walk out of his life. he's upset when he doesn't have the girl he loves and b.c he wants her he doesn't have any other girl b.c he wants the one he loves. these last few lines also mean if his dreams start to get weird he saved some of his favorite dreams of her as memories and he's keeping them so he never fully loses her or forgets her.

It reminds me of when my dad wakes me up at 6:30 in the morning so they we can go to D.C. "So many sights to see! Get up, let's go!"
