The view out my window
from the house in the city
is a brick wall
with a fire walk that cuts through the vines
A big picture window
with a moon on a mobile
looking out on the cars going by

I lay on my back and look up through the window
through the branches and the buildings
I can still see the sky

Old ladies smoke cigars
and play cards on the front step
as little girls play hopscotch through the cracks and the lines
It’s another day in the city and we all seem so busy
I like to step back and see the beauty of this life

I am tired of trying to shove a circle in a square
when I wish that I were here
but you still can’t find me there
It’s an empty feeling
like the wheels spinning in this car
getting me nowhere and taking me just that far

I used to live in the mountains and look out on the city
through the plains and the valley
I could see the skyline
but my mama got sick and I needed a place to run to
all the pain I was leaving behind

Slow down
Look around
Watch the world spinning round
Watch the sun, it goes up
Watch the sun, it goes down
Everyday that passes and the world stops spinning round
I might not be around anymore
Slow down
