Come on down to the other side
Come with us through the gates of hell
Where we'll drag you from where you are
To where you belong

Come on down to the other side
Come with us through the gates of hell
Where we'll drag you from where you are
To where you belong

There's nothing to fear
Your saviors are here
The ship is coming down
The ship is coming down
The ship is coming down
Coming down
Coming down

You, you look so precious
A diamond in the rough
And though you tried to escape
I'll be holding on
Holding on
Holding on
Holding on

But I can't sleep until this is done
They're in my head
They're in my soul

Come on down to the other side
Come with us through the gates of hell
Where we'll drag you from where you are to where you belong

Come on down to the other side
Come with us through the gates of hell
Where we'll drag you from where you are to where you belong

We are in your spirit
We're everywhere you turn
From the cover to the cover
The cover to the cover
To your lover
To your brother
To your mother
To the others

You, You look so precious
But now you've gone away
And I am falling apart
Under the waves
The waves
The waves
The waves

But I can't sleep until this is done
They're in my head
They're in my soul

Through the gates of hell
We know you

The ship is coming down
The ship is coming down
The ship is coming down
The ship is coming down
Coming down
Coming down
Coming down
Coming down
Coming down
Coming down
Coming down
Coming

Down to the other side
Come with us through the gates of hell
Where we'll drag you from where you are to where you belong

Come on down to the other side
Come with us through the gates of hell
Where we'll drag you from where you are to where you belong

Reading all the comments and comparing it to my own interpretation, it seems clear to me. I also listened to this several times with headphones on and you can hear a lot more of the subtle sounds and pronunciations.

This song is about a battle over the authors soul against a constant demonic attack, (literal or figuratively). The demonic source could be a metaphor for drugs, or a sinful lifestyle, but it is worded as if these things took on a demonic form of their own, or are actual literal demons. The song is written from the words of a "we" entity, which demons are known to attack as a legion.

They are enticing him to, "be dragged to where he belongs" on the darker side. They try to comfort him by telling him, "theres nothing to fear". It could possibly be the other voice fighting to keep him from the other side, saying, "when you tried to escape, we'll be holding on". But the second male/female verse confirms that this is indeed another manifestation of the demonic voices.

In fact they are the pain in his life that he is trying to escape, (through extacy and/or clubbing) but they hold on, always dragging him back in the form of renewed memory of his pain or through the emotional crash after an Ex, high.

The second verse, "we are in your spirit, we're everywhere you turn, from the cover to cover. In lover, to your brother, to your mother, in the others." alludes to the hopelessness of trying to escape his personal demons. Voices and reminders are everywhere, and inescapable. They say, "you were so precious, a diamond in the rough. But now you've gone away. I'm falling apart under the waves." is the voices claiming victory over his soul. They have taken his precious heart and dragged it into hell. The shift is coming down from happiness to the hell of his his past/current life/destiny.

The tortures in his heart force him to get the words onto paper and write this dark song. "And I can't sleep until this is done." Sadness and dispair have spurned him into getting his thoughts out, to write this song, for the good of mankind or to the ill. For the victory of his demons or for their defeat.

These are very angst driven songs. Theories that this is about big music business come from the lyrical interpretation, "But I can't sleep from the Big System". But if you have experienced the pain of a tortured soul, or the slough of an Ex crash, and if you listen carefully to the enunciation in the lyrics, the meaning is clear.

Other songs by Pendulum are about being plagued by ones past. Either of longing for a lost love or guilt of a wrong decision in life. They illustrate the tortured soul like few others and I identify with the spiritually dark tone of their music.

Sweet new single. After much listening, I believe I've worked out the correct lyrics. However, feel free to correct them as I am not sure they're 100% right

Come on down to the other side, Come with us through the gates of hell, We will drag you from where you are, To where you belong.

Come on down to the other side, Come with us through the gates of hell, We will drag you from where you are, To where you belong.

There's nothing, to fear, Your saviors, they're here, The shift is coming down, The shift is coming down, The shift is coming down, coming down, coming down.

You, you look so precious, A diamond in rough, And you tried to escape, But we're holding on,

But I can't sleep until this is done, They're in my head, They're in my soul,

Come on down to the other side, Come with us through the gates of hell, Where we'll drag you from where you are, To where you belong.

Come on down to the other side, Come with us through the gates of hell, Where we'll drag you from where you are, To where you belong.

We are in your spirit, Your everywhere you turn, From the cover undercover, The cover undercover, Your lover, Your brother, Your mother, The other's.

You, you are so precious, But now you've gone away, But I am falling apart, I'll get the waves,

But I can't sleep until this is done, They're in my head, They're in my soul,

Through the gates of hell, We know you,

The shift is coming down, The shift is coming down, The shift is coming down, The shift is coming down, Coming down, Coming down, Coming down, Coming down, Coming down, Coming down, Coming down, Coming down.

Down to the other side, Come with us through the gates of hell, We will drag you from where you are, To where you belong.

WW: There’s always a danger of reading too much into lyrics – but there are some on the new album that listeners may interpret as being you guys talking about yourselves. Like in “The Other Side,” where there’s all this talk about “saviors” and dragging people from where they are to where they belong. Was that any kind of a comment to fans – a way of saying they may not be sure about where you’re taking them, but they’ll like it when they get there?

RS: No, actually – although that’s quite close. It’s actually the closest so far. No, it was actually sort of a semi-jab at the whole major label experience.

I interpret this song as being evil and creepy. We will drag you down, to the gates of hell, when you try to escape we're holding on.... The shift is coming down - pole shift, 2012, new world order, the new age - which they also mention in another song...as well as the end of the world...

I wrote about my thoughts on Pendulum under "Blood Sugar" already.

It's a shame cos I liked them a lot, they have some dope tunes, but it did always feel a bit to the evil side, (sometimes that's what's so intriguing and strangely alluring?), but now that I've realised their spiritual vibe I think they're pretty wack. Why support evil, when you could support good? I will never get this.

I think this song is about a depressed person. His/her friends are encouraging him/her to come to "the other side" where he/she belongs.

His/her friends are reminding him/her that they'll never leave, and they'll keep trying to get him/her back to life, and to feel good again.

It's all about true friendship, and how it's the almost the strongest of bonds you will ever have.

anyone who is caught in the battle between sides will know full well what this song means. this song is yet another way the dark forces will communicate with you when they want you to hear the message within. pure evil without a doubt. you decide.

    My Interpretation

This is the kind of song that could interpreted so many different ways that I think the actual meaning is the one given to it by whoever listens to it. In my case, I see a criminal who's gotten major charges dropped on him and the victim (or whoever involved) decides to take it into their own hands. "We will drag you from where you are to where you belong." Whether that be Hell, a shallow grave, or a prison cell. You decide.

    Song Meaning

Pretty straightforward - you are home, if you dragged beloved person under the water thinking it was good for him or her. Or generally when you just changed somebody not-in-good-way. Realising shitstorm you made, think some self-punishment could follow.

Cheers to the pricks. To all of us.

    My Interpretation

I always seem to interpret Pendulum songs in a more dystopian light haha

for this song I always thought that the speaker/s are AI (artificial intelligence). it sounds to me like the parts with the female voice are the AI talking to the only surviving passenger of a ship, the AI being the ship itself, therefore the ship is trying to talk to the human. 'You, you are so precious, But now you've gone away, But I am falling apart, I'll get the waves' is the ship acknowledging that it is dying. the ship to me also sounds corrupted, possibly due to damage. I could go into more detail but its like, 3 am so..but reply with any questions, I will respond :)

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
