Somewhere in between this ocean and mountainside
I have this dream I think of it still sometimes
I know it's just the season
I sense no time or reason
The sky falls down; it's evening
The feeling goes; it's leaving

Miles until this desert brings me back to your face
Those eyes you know I think of them still sometimes
But you're away in Eden
And I'm still here the heathen
This times for real, we're even
We do this for the season

I cross the sand
without your hand
I go back to
where you and I began
and I was yours
and you were mine
things seem so soon to say goodbye
I hope you're well as I am fine
I keep to myself where I go where I lie

I woke up in a cave
No air no light no shade
when did things turn this way?
I miss you on certain days

General CommentThis song means a lot to me, especially considering the context of this song/album is practically identical to my own personal experiences

This song is generally about the memories of a relationship that were seemed so incredible, led by the person who made you happiest in life, but you realize that it's now over and you can't help but think about what should have been and how it should have never ended so abruptly.

'I miss you on certain days'

Strong statement that basically means, I miss you when I don't think about how you ended a relationship that should have lasted longer

General CommentThis is a brilliant song by a brilliant band. Specific parts that I love are the contempt I hear in the way "I hope you're well as I am fine" is sung, the little ending of the first part "I miss you on certain days". I think IsitLuck is pretty spot on with his/her interpretation of that part.

and to be honest one of the most intense parts of this song (and the album) is not even in words - the part in the middle with the screaming and muttering. Don't really know how to interpret it. I think it is somebody screaming at themselves and all the separate parts of their brain, which are all trying to give advice and talking about their own problems.

General CommentI kind of get a different feeling from this song. It seems that he had a good relationship with someone, but they left him in a painful way. (whether it be them breaking up or her dying or moving away). But i think it's because of the season because that's when said separation occurred.

It seems to me though, that he doesn't think about it because he's better off without her. "This times for real, we're even" seems to say that they were on and off but now it's over (may he was the one who finally had to let her go).

It sounds like he only misses her on occasion, the rest of the time he realizes that the relationship was painful and not worth it.

General CommentThis song is really personal to me, as I'm sure it is to many.

I have a different interpretation on the meaning of "I miss you on certain days." I've always agreed with that line when I think about a difficult break-up. To me it is said because of the complicated feelings are felt when looking back. You half want to hate them, but you still want them to be happy. And you try not to think about them and you even go ahead and move on, but you still find yourself thinking about them when you are alone. I miss you on certain days.

My InterpretationThere are levels of interpretation of this song; it's why us as listeners can connect so easily I think.

    Literally, its pretty clear:
Meric starts out describing the nature of his dream. There is a certain, time and place for its occurrence, but also how quickly it leaves. As suddenly as it comes, it goes.
He goes on to describe the distances that separate himself from 'her'. He knows they're in two different places now, two different conditions.
The next few lines I think describe the manifest content of the dreams. He crosses desert sands alone to see her, while dreaming of memories of the times they've been together, their first meeting, their final moments.
And he wakes up in a 'cave', no air, no light, no shade, left only with the sentiments of longing for her.

    And everything else:
I don't know if its just me, but I think there a many Biblical references; clearest 'Eden', 'heathen', but I also think the use of the cave. Waking in the cave; almost like the resurrection; a place of no air, light, shade: a place devoid of life, comfort. Perhaps these dreams 'resurrect' his feelings, and his memories, perhaps an old self.

This idea of resurrection an old self gives me the sense of the cyclical nature of the song. The way he describes this dream is of a re-occurrence, like the season that evokes it. And like the seasons, which come with time, so too will his feelings. And yet,'This times for real, we're even//We do this for the season', a contradiction, we're done with but we'll do this once more...

This is all interpretation obviously, but the final feeling of isolation, of loneliness is the strongest message; He finds himself alone in his dream, only to wake and find himself alone again. Such a dead sudden ending from a flood of life and emotion.

General CommentI don't really have some well thought out/eloquently constructed meaning that will melt your face, but i do skateboard and have recently become much more fascinated by longboards because of a company called Original Skateboards. They make these ridiculous longboarding videos with their skate team and they're all pretty artsy and have amazing soundtracks and "the season" was used in one of their videos and it's really beautiful:

    youtube.com/…

I promise it's not going to be some ridiculous video of some rando shooting random shit out of their ass or anything
