"I'm A Lady" as written by John Hill, Santi White and Christopher T Feinstein....
Now won't you run and tell your boyfriend
Tell him don't hold his breath for me
I've got some money I was saving
Got some hearts that I'll be breaking
Know someday they'll make a martyr out of me
I know someday they'll make a martyr out of me

She's so fine

And I like sometimes to wave it high
Up where everyone can see

[Chorus]
I'm a lady
Got my mind made up
Got my mind made up

I know that I've been mad but you really don't
Try to hold a light to me

[Chorus]

I like to watch the way the wind blows
What does it know that I don't yet
Ooh, oh, look so pretty now
You're just so sweet
Let's see how far you can get
See just how far you can get

She's so fine

And I like sometimes to wave it high
Up where everyone can see

[Chorus]

I know that I've been mad but you really don't
Try to hold a light to me

[Chorus]

Dreams are gone
And the dreams are gone
No one said, no
No one said
Make something with what's in your head
And the dreams are gone
And the dreams are gone

General Commentshe's saying she's a strong minded independant woman. these are so few and far between she feels its something to sing about and that people will be so impressed that she will probably become a martyr.
but then she still goes on to say your so pretty, see how far you can get.
because she is attractive she will always been seen as nothing more than a woman; an object, therefore only capable of stereotypical behaviour.

General CommentSee, i think this is about her being completely confident in her own skin. She knows exactly what she's doing.

And I think when she says "Ooh oh look so pretty, now you're just so sweet
But see how far you can get", I think she's talking about just a gorgeous girl who thinks she's better than her but being pretty only gets you so far.

General CommentYou guys are all wrong. It's actually about her never truly feeling comfortable in her femininity (most tomboys are more comfortable in their masculinity than their feminity) "Ooh oh look so pretty, now you're just so sweet, But see how far you can get..." She's aware of how many women take advantage of their femininity, by playing the role of the pretty damsel in distress, but because she isn't that kind of girl she says it as metaphorical spitting, looking down at those women. So she's making something with what's in her head, by deciding she is a lady, she's made up her mind, embracing herself for what she is --a woman with a masculine mind.
