Breaking up with your breakdowns,
Standing tall in your white gown,
You're going nowhere, you're going fast
You're slowing down but you'll never last
Take your time honey, take your time,

It's the wrong dream, with the wrong man,
With a cold gun, in your wrong hand,
Get it right this time, get it off your mind,
Let the summer rain bring you rest
And shame and love

Carve your name in a black stone,
Swear to god we won't let go,
If you cant love babe, then you cant hurt,
We take the good times, with the worst,
Take your time honey, take your time.

It's the wrong dream, with the wrong man,
With a cold gun, in your wrong hand,
Get it right this time, get it off your mind,
Let the summer rain bring you rest
And shame and love

it is definitely calming. although I would have to say that this song is about him trying to convince a girl not to marry someone who is wrong for her. i mean, the white gown obviously references a wedding. he says she's going nowhere (as in her relationship will lead nowhere) but they're going there fast (moving too quickly; i.e. getting married). she's slowing down; settling down with the guy, but it won't last because she doesn't really love him. the wrong dream with the wrong man, saying she doesn't really want to marry him. a cold gun in the wrong hand (implying that she's dooming herself by marrying this guy). he urges her to get it right this time, to take the shame of blowing off your fiance to let the summer rain bring her rest from her strenuous relationship and also to bring her his love, since she would be single then. the last paragraph saying that even though they go through some rough times, we must take the good with the bad, and knowing this, they know they are really meant for each other and will hopefully last forever, no matter what obstacles present themselves.

    Song Meaning

This song is about a girl who is marrying the wrong person, for the wrong reasons....

"breaking up with your breakdowns" ---she is tired of breaking down all the time and has resolved to find her way out of the misery

"standing tall in your white gown" ---confidently, she chooses marriage as that escape

"you're going nowhere, you're going fast" ---but by not waiting for the right person, she isn't going to get anywhere

"you're slowing down but you'll never last" ---shes settling down and it may help her for a while, but the relationship and the relief wont last forever

"take your time honey, take your time" ---if she takes her time she can find something that will

"it's the wrong dream, with the wrong man" ---she shouldn't be marrying this guy for some sort of escape, that's not why you should want to get married, and the wrong man wont provide it

there is some controversy between whether it is "wrong hand" or "own hand"?...these are my opinions for both "with a cold gun, in your wrong hand" ---it may seem like shes holds the key to safety and protection by getting married, but if she isn't handling marriage properly then it will end up causing her harm "with a cold gun, in your own hand" ---she has marriage right in front of her and right now it seems safe but once she decides to use it, it will just cause harm

"get it right this time, get it off your mind" ---don't make this mistake, don't get married, get rid of the idea that you have to

"let the summer rain bring you rest" ---take some time, take a step back, and it will bring you calm and peace because...

"and shame and love" ---you will realize the mistake you're making and will be able to find true love and happiness elsewhere

"carve your name in a black stone" ---marry this guys and you're carving your own headstone

"swear to god we won't let go" ---if she does it they will still be there for her though

“if you can't love babe, then you can't hurt” ---a warning that yes, if she doesn’t really love him then she can’t be hurt by him…

“we take the good times, with the worst” ---but life is about taking the good with the bad because if you don’t know what misery is then you’ll never be able to understand what true happiness is either

“take your time honey, take your time.” ---if she takes her time she will realize all of this and be able to find what she really wants and needs

yes it is. i think, i dont know why, but i think its about his wife, girlfriend whatever, shooting someone. it says "it's the wrong dream, with the wrong man, (the guy she shot from possibly a past relationship) with a cold gun, in your wrong hand, (it was a dream and it is haunting her with guilt and the gun she shot him with is in the wrong hand) get it right this time, get it off your mind, (get the thought off your mind) let the summer rain bring you rest and shame and love (just try to forget about it)" well thats what I think it means...idk if it sounds crazy or anything...

i agree with it being about her marrying the wrong guy (in your white gown...going nowhere, you're going fast), but i think the "cold gun, in your wrong hand" implies suicide. she takes matters into her own hands to get out of her relationship with the wrong man that's going nowhere. this is her way og "getting it off her mind" - this is emphasized by the last stanza that speaks of carving her name in a black stone - her grave. the speaker, who recognized that she was getting into a bad, dead-end relationship tries to make the best out of her death by remembering the good times and not letting go of her memory.

okay, this might end up being a bit long.

"Breaking up with your breakdown" -this girl knows that her current relationship isn't right and she's coming to terms with it. maybe a little late, considering that the song implies she's about to marry this guy, but still. "Standing tall in your white gown" -"standing tall" might mean she's finding some resolve and courage. the white gown could imply she's marrying the guy she's involved with. "Going nowhere, you're going fast" -he knows she's with the wrong man, and she's going nowhere with him quickly. (again implying marriage). "Slowing down but it'll never last" -another reason I think she's seen some reason and found some resolve (slowing down). "Take your time honey, Take your time" "It's the wrong dream, with the wrong man" -he's telling her she's with the wrong person and she's placing her dreams falsely. "It's the cold gun in your own hand" -im my opinion, (and some others) he doesn't say "wrong hand", he says "own hand". this may mean she's thinking of killing herself or him to get out of marrying him. i think it's more likely she's thinking of killing herself. "Get it right this time, get it off your mind" -he's encouraging her to just end the relationship and move on with her life. "Let the summer rain bring you rest and shame and love" -he wants her to find rest (peace of mind out of the relationship?) and shame for having come so close to marrying the wrong person and new love to help her past her mistakes. "Carve your name in the black stone" -people often carve their names along with their significant others. i think it simply implies that, nothing more. "Swear to God he won't let go" -i think the GUY she was about to marry is the one implied here. like he told her he wouldn't let go. "If you can't love babe, you can't hurt" -a simple, but profound statement. if we harden ourselves to love, we can't be hurt either. not hurting comes at a price. "We take the good times with the worst" -life is full of good things and bad. bittersweet. "Take your time honey, Take your time"

Just my opinions, line by line. (:

I agree with the previous posts mostly. I believe its him convincing a girl not to get married merely because it is the socially safest way to go.

I dont see the gun as a symbol of suicide, but rather of change. Guns are hot, fast, unpredictable, dangerous. However the cold gun symbolises none of these. Entering the marriage will prevent change, cause her to stagnate.

If she rushes into a loveless marriage, her life will fly past without her experiencing it properly, straight to the grave (identified by achforyou in the last stanza)

Basically there are more ways to live your life than the safe option, take risks, make changes.

I think its about a girl marrying another guy instead of him and maybe shes hurrying things up and she should take her time, do the right things and meet the right person. The gun maybe means that she doing things wrong, killing her future, maybe?

Maybe it is to think things before you do them, take your time to do things and think about your future...

I think it's about someone watching someone they care about getting married with the wrong person and it's not their soulmate. I think this person has probably been hurt a lot in love and has just decided not to love and marry someone even if she isn't in love. They have a "cold gun" because she pretty much killing herself by marrying someone she doesn't love. He's telling her to take her time and don't rush things and just wait for real love to come to her.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
