I'm a hot dog
Sitting in the fog
Waiting for my day to come
And I'm all alone
Far away from home
Just me and my mustard and my bun

And no, I miss you
But time is on my side
And no, I need you
But you and onions make me cry

And I'm all beef
But I have a heart
And it's splitting now that you've gone away
And I wish everything was kosher as me
But I'm not healthy for you anyway

And no, I miss you
But time is on my side
And no, I need you
But you and onions make me cry

General Commentaahhh this song is so cute! taking the POV of a hot dog X]. reminds me of something Regina Spektor would sing.
'And I wish everything was kosher as me
But I'm not healthy for you anyway'

General Commentbut yeah. i can totally just see her ordering a hot dog and saying 'no onions, please' to the vendor, and then eating it and writing this song.
she's waiting for her love to come along like a hot dog waits to be eaten. she just broke up with another guy, whom she still has feelings for, but he 'makes her cry' so they had to split up. however, she blames herself ('but i'm not healthy for you anyway') and wishes everyone was 'kosher' like her. so maybe she wishes everyone was honest and pure?

Song Meaningin the daytrotter sessions, she said "My friend was in film school and had to write and direct a short film. She had this great idea — a story to be about a guy who gets off work, buys a hot dog from a stand and gets really sick. He passes out, and it goes into a dream sequence where this gigantic hot dog girl is waking him up, and they fall in love. I offered to play the hot dog girl and was inspired to write this song. It played during the sex scene that involved ketchup and mustard."

General CommentBTW They got the lyrics wrong the real lyrics which you can totally tell what they are go:

    I'm a hot dog
    Sitting in the fog
Waiting for my day in the sun
    And I'm all alone
    Far away from home
Just me my mustard and my bun

    And oh, I miss you
But time is on my side
    And oh, I need you
But you and onions make me cry

    And I'm all beef
    But I have a heart
And it's bleeding now that you've gone away
And I wish everything was kosher as me
But I'm not healthy for you anyway

    And oh, I miss you
But time is on my side
    And oh, I need you
But you and onions make me cry

    And oh, I miss you
But time is on my side
    And oh, I need you
But you and onions make me cry.
