In through your window the sky will fall.
You'll trap the stars in jars and line them along your walls.
As the moonlight fills the veins beneath your skin,
You'll hear us knocking, oh, but you won't let us in.

Because you've got no friends,
And you've got no heartbeat.
Your insides are rotten now.
So there's nothing to fix.

But you said it often, before you were lost,
That it's only a day. That it's only a day.
But now you're a monster, and your backbone is soft.
Because you threw it away. Because you threw it away.

You called me out; I shrugged you off.
I don't have the time to watch you bash in all their skulls.
'cause there's a new boss in town, his heart is black, but his hands can reach through anything.
Stick your head in the ground. You might just dodge the guns.

But I'm not your friend.
And I will not fix you.
My insides are hollow now.
So you're all on your own.

But I said it often, before we were lost.
That it's only a day. That it's only a day.
But now I'm a monster, and my blood all runs cold.
Because I threw it away. Because I threw it away.

But now we've forgotten. And we've sold our blue skies.
But there's nothing to say. We'll be gone in a day.
And yeah, you can't take it with you. But I can sure as hell try.
Now there's nothing to say. I'll be gone in a day.

i always interpret songs differently than others.

but this is what i think this song is about:

it's a guy singing about somebody who used to be his friend before that person kind of shut out everyone from their life and started spending their days doing nothing.

"You'll hear us knocking, oh, but you won't let us in."

i don't think that person planned on spending their days doing nothing from the start, but after they started they became comfortable doing nothing and ended up wasting their life.

"But you said it often, before you were lost, That it's only a day. That it's only a day."

"before you were lost" meaning before they locked themselves away from society. "it's only a day, it's only a day" meaning something like "i won't always be in this situation, i won't always waste my days, i'll change soon"

"But now you're a monster, and your backbone is soft."

the guy who is singing about this person thinks of this former friend as if they are dead now, because he never sees them anymore. a monster with a soft backbone, a dead person... yes, seems like that's what those two things imply. (even though that person is still alive, just not to anyone else but themselves, if you get what i'm saying. because they are so socially withdrawn.)

"Because you threw it away. Because you threw it away."

that person is a "dead monster" now because they threw their life away.

"Because you've got no friends, And you've got no heartbeat. Your insides are rotten now. So there's nothing to fix."

the person eventually lost all of their friends after not seeing them for so long, and it has gotten so bad that there is no way to fix it.

"You called me out; I shrugged you off. I don't have the time to watch you bash in all their skulls."

i think the guy singing must have gotten a few calls for help from the old friend, helping them to get their life back, but the guy ignored them because he didn't consider that person a friend anymore. he didn't have the time to deal with that person and their problems anymore.

"Stick your head in the ground. You might just dodge the guns."

that could mean, "keep doing nothing, stick your head in the grown, you'll be safer from the real world if you do nothing, you might just dodge the guns."

eventually, i think the guy who is singing starts hating that former friend, because the former friend pretty much gave up on their friendship when they locked themselves away from the real world.

"But I'm not your friend. And I will not fix you. My insides are hollow now. So you're all on your own."

that's what that part is about.

"my insides are hollow now" meaning he does not feel any pity towards his old friend anymore, his heart is cold and doesn't know how to care anymore. hollow.

and years later, i think the guy who is singing eventually ends up like his former friend, locking himself away from society.

"But I said it often, before we were lost. That it's only a day. That it's only a day. But now I'm a monster, and my blood all runs cold. Because I threw it away. Because I threw it away."

so now he is relating to this former friend.

and more years past, and both of them are still wasting their lives doing nothing, and they are both finally dying and there's nothing they can do about it. and there's no time to live the life they should have lived.

"But now we've forgotten. And we've sold our blue skies. But there's nothing to say. We'll be gone in a day. And yeah, you can't take it with you. But I can sure as hell try. Now there's nothing to say. I'll be gone in a day. "

    pretty sad.

To me, this song is about feeling like the world's problems are trapped inside of you and that sometimes, no matter how much people try to help they can't get you out of yourself. The more time you spend inside of your head, the less you feel like you can relate to others. You feel inadequate and alone and yeah, rotten. Also, that in taking on so many problems you can't get what you need out because you have so much they are unable to tell you how to fix what's inside of you. and you can't tell the loved ones in your life to stop placing everything on top of you. All you can tell them is today is only one day and it will be over before you know it. Suffering is only temporary.

The last half I think is more of a direct answer from yourself. You're not even your own friend. There is nothing left to offer.

In the end, the only ones that are monsters are the ones that are so selfish that they can't see how much you need. Even though, you feel like it is you.

Also, "electrispresidentrulzzdood," What the hell does Obama have to do with this? And honestly, you can't recreate something like the U.S.S.R., and your an ignorant bastard if you believe that.

    That is all.

    My Interpretation

i LOVE this song and i see this as an expression of how industrialisation and consumerism has lead to a materialistic society and that it is damaging peoples souls.

the first two lines i think represent how we as a society take from the world for selfish purposes with no great personal gain - the stars being taken from the sky, only to be kept trapped in jars for decoration and personal satisfaction. 'We've sold our blue skies' is also a strong statement of how aggressive materialism is in society.

The repeated line 'That it's only a day' i think reflects the oppinion of someone who sees a day of spending their time climing corporate ladders and gaining wealth as not a waste of time but that it is minimal compared to the amount of time they intend to spend enjoying life for what it is. something that they do not get around to doing -they have thrown away parts of them that are nessessary for human function (spine and blood) which leads to them forgetting thier most human intentions.

'bash in all their skulls' i see as the sometimes cruel and violent manner is which corperations and buisness people treat each other.

this song to me highlights how living such a shallow lifestyle is not worth it because our lives are short and all the wealth we gain on earth can not come with us when we leave. in living such a life we separate ourselves from the natural beauty the world offers.

'But now we've forgotten. And we've sold our blue skies. But there's nothing to say. We'll be gone in a day. And yeah, you can't take it with you. But I can sure as hell try. Now there's nothing to say. I'll be gone in a day.'

about some one he knows that has turned into a "monster". this term is to be taken very loosly. maybe addicted to meth. about how he trys to help but is refused constantly by him. shutting out the world and living out the rest of his meaningles life along and cold with only his thoughts to amuse him. he calls on ben cooper( writer of this song) to come and join in his mis-livings(probably not a word) and ben refuses and tells him to stop but eventually gets sucken into it.BARACK OBAMA IS TURNING OUR COUNTRY INTO THE U.S.S.R!!!!!!!

    Song Meaning

Man, can't you guys get it straight? Ben Cooper (the artist who created this song) says EVERYTHING on the album "Sleep Well" is part of a dream, thats IT, game over, nothing else, a DREAM. Do some research next time, please.

Here's the proof, Ben's blogging website, and a direct copy-and-paste quote of what it's about: "February 19th, 2008:

    Done!

The new Electric President record is finished. It's called Sleep Well, it's twelve tracks long, it features songs about boogie men and creatures living beneath your floorboards and the inevitable robot takeover we're bound to experience in the near future. Thirteen months is a long time to work on the same material. I'm pretty damn sick of these songs. But I'm very glad the album's done. I've been celebrating by getting some sleep, and eating too much.

I still don't have any idea when this record will actually be released. I'll post about it as soon as I know. But it'll likely be out sometime around Summer, which sort of sucks. It's very much a winter/nighttime kind of record. Oh well. Can't win them all.

But something kind of funny happened with this record ... the b-sides, if we complete them all, add up to more run-time than the record itself -- over an hour's worth of songs. Whoops. I don't know what we will do with all ofthese. It's a bit early to say, considering most of them aren't even totally finished, and actual album isn't even out. But once they're done, I'll find some way to make them available. Step at a time, step at a time."

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
