"No Joanna" as written by and Robert Guy Stern Daniel Blumberg....
It feels like this, as I walk the streets
And I stalk the leaves on my way home
Look down at my shoes, to see how I move

And it's always wrong, it's always wrong

But I can't go back, I can't go back
I can't go back to her, she'll see
She'll see the way I look, I've looked
I'll always look through my eyes
Through my heart but not my sense
I seem to lose, but not when I choose

And it's always wrong, it's always wrong

But second source, in the middle of the night
All's easy but not with this girl

Joanna sits on the wall
Smiling and laughing and asking for more
She's won the battle, but now comes the fear
It's over, it's over, just as I came near

It feels like this, as I walk the streets
And I stalk the leaves on my way home
The house is so near, but oceans from here

And it's always wrong, it's always wrong

But summer air, when hands are a tangled
You think that you've won all the world

Joanna sits on the wall
Smiling and laughing and asking for more
She's won the battle, but now comes the fear
It's over, it's over, just as I came near

But second source, in the middle of the night
It feels like this, it feels like this
My eyes will take a tear from you
My heart will take a beat, or two
My feet will take me back to you tonight, they always do

Joanna sits on the wall
Smiling and laughing and asking for more
She's won the battle, but now comes the fear
It's over, it's over, just as I came near

Your eyes aren't blue, but I still see seas within

General CommentTo me, this song is about a man who falls deeply in love with a woman who happens to be a very wild creature.
However, I beleive his love comes too late for her. She has already moved on because her character is defined by the fact that she needs to keep things new and alive. Just as he "comes near," ready to accept this love, she has already disappeared.

This could be nonsense to all of you, but its what I hear.

Song MeaningI disagree slightly with what's been suggested. My reading of it is this:

Guy and a girl going out, she breaks up with him. He loves (still loves) her and can't help himself but to keep going back to her despite his knowing that he probably should be doing this... this is a repeating cycle... hence, "it's always wrong". She makes him feel like he's not good enough for her, "back to her, she'll see the way I look, I've looked". If she sees how he looks, she'll judge him, make him feel like crap again etc,

Despite that all, he keeps going back to her "my feet will take me back to you".

The last line of the song, to me is basically saying. 'you're a bitch to me but I still the good within you'. "Your eyes aren't blue but i still see seas within".

It makes sense to me at least! haha

General CommentLovely song. Best on the album.

I think the "won all the while" line is "won all the world", and the last line is "but I still see seas within" which is particularly beautiful.

No idea about the "second source" thing.

    General CommentI agree with Kate.
He's fallen too much in love with her, but she is just a girl who likes to have fun.
She can't commit, she just wants to have fun and now that it's getting too much for her she has to leave.

I think the bit "To see how i move,
And it's always wrong, it's always wrong"

I think this shows that he is trying to make her commit, do little things, "move2 in a way that might get through to her, but he won't ever get through to her.

General Commentyeah i definately agree with whats be put forward:

    - a summer relationship 'But summer air, When hands are a tangle, you think that you've won all the world'

and what chantal16 has put forward.

    nevertheless, brilliant song.

My Interpretationi think its about a boy and girl who love each other but she cant commit.
she is wanting a wild summer and hes picking up the pieces behind her.
hes always behind her, making sure shes okay but hes never too close, he knows if he gets too close she will just hurt him again.
they both dont want each other to know how much they mean to one other, and are dicks to each other to try cover their feelings. Joanna wins the battle everytime, but this isnt always a good thing. He knows what she is doing is wrong. everytime she hurts him people tell him leave her but he will go back to her.
He keeps getting close to fixing everything but everytime she shatters it to pieces.
She puts on a smile through everything pretending life is dandy and great and ignoring her problems but when he looks into her eyes he can see her sadness. he can see a sea of tears.
