Sometimes it's hard to say
Even one thing true
When all eyes have turned aside
They used to talk to you
And people on the streets seem to disapprove
So you keep moving away
And forget what you wanted to say

Little bird
Little bird
Brush your gray wings on my head
Say what you said
Say it again
They tell me I'm crazy
But you told me
I'm golden

Sometimes it's hard to tell the truth from the lie
Nobody knows what's in the hold of your mind
We are all buildings and people inside
Never know who walks through the door
Is it someone that you've met before

Little bird
Little Bird
Brush your gray wings on my head
Say what you said
Say it again
They tell me I'm crazy
But you told me
I'm golden
Little bird

I know what I know
A wind in the trees and a road
That goes winding 'onder
From here I see rain I hear thunder
Somewhere there's sun
And you don't need a reason

Sometimes it's hard to find a way to keep on
Quiet weekends, holidays
You come undone
Open your window and look upon
All the kinds of alive you can be
Be still, be light, believe me

Little bird
Little Bird
Brush your gray wings on my head
Say what you said
Say it again
They tell me I'm crazy
But you told me
I'm golden
I'm golden

General CommentAs I read and listened to the song again, it may be more about schitzophrenia...

In the verses there are lines of paranoia, audio hallucinations, disorganized thoughts, multiple personality, delusion, depression and "loosing it." Sung from the view of a schitophrenic to someone who sees them as precious.

I love the Weepies! Their lyrics are so poetic and music beautifully scored.

General CommentThis is such a great song. I love heir new album.

    'They tell me I’m crazy
    But you told me
    I’m golden'

that's the best part for me. it reminds me of the part in The Outsiders when Johnny tells Ponyboy to stay golden after reading the Robet Frost poem. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, I think 'golden' has the same meaning here.

General CommentI love that book, The Outsiders. I didn't even think of that, good point.

I really like this song, especially:

'Sometimes it’s hard to find a way to keep on
    Quiet weekends, holidays
    You come undone'

I guess it has to do with living, despite what people say or think about you. You may get lost, but you still keep on.

General Commentat first i didn't like this song as much as some of the other weepies songs, but after i've listened to it i can really appreciate its beauty.

the first verse is really about being shunned, which can in ways relate to the book the outsiders

but i think the song is mainly about not belonging and when it says
"From here i see rain i hear thunder
    somewhere there's sun"
these lines to me say that right now i'm in this stormy dark place, but the sun is shining somewhere and i just have to get there... and this leads to the last verse

"open your window and look upon
all the kinds of alive you can be"
and so again its saying you may not belong now, or feel good now, but you can change your life

    really inspirational song

General CommentSort of like summerpenguin said, I think this is about feeling alienated by those you love because of something you did (people on the streets seem to disapprove). The whole thing about buildings and people probably means like...you never can tell who the people you know really are underneath it all (i.e. she never thought they'd "disown" her or w/e). As the song goes on, it describes how she goes from being pretty down about it to realizing all the things she can do and be now that she's alone ("open your window and look upon all the kinds of alive you can be). Lovee this song. (:

General CommentI think this song is about a person with a mental disorder.... maybe depression?

General CommentI heard this song while my girlfriend was listening to Pandora - and what a discovery. We really do love this tune. It's reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac which is also a great group, though older now (Rhiannon, Landslide, Dreams, etc. if you don't know who they are). I could see how the lyrics could be interpreted differently (I find both of the above interpretations interesting and fitting. I lean toward the mental instability, personally as I find it a little more interesting). Lyrical ambiguity has always been something I have appreciated though. It's as if the artist doesn't want to make it too easy for you to define their song. I like room for thought in an artwork.
