"The Technicolor Phase" as written by and Adam R. Young....
I am the red in the rose, the flowers
On the blankets on your bedroom floor.
And I am the gray in the ghost that hides
With your clothes behind your closet door.

I am the green in the grass that bends back
From underneath your feet.
And I am the blue in your back alley view
Where the horizon and the rooftops meet.

If you cut me I suppose I would bleed the colors
Of the evening stars.
You can go anywhere you wish cause I'll be there, wherever you are.
(Wherever you are) [Repeat x2]

(I will always be your gaze
When we are lost in the Technicolor phase)

I am the black in the book
The letters on the pages that you memorize.
And I am the orange in the overcast
Of color that you visualize.

I am the white in the walls that soak up
All the sound when you cannot sleep.
And I am the peach in the starfish on the beach
That wish the harbor wasn't quite so deep.

If you cut me I suppose I would bleed the colors
Of the evening stars. (my darling)
You can go anywhere you wish cause I'll be there, wherever you are. (My darling)

(Wherever you are) [Repeat x3]

General CommentTo me this song makes me think about how God can be anywhere, and that He's always with you in spirit. It could definitely be about a girl; however, I do know that Adam Young (Owl City) is Christian, and the line "if you cut me I suppose I would bleed, the colors of the evening stars" makes me think about God up in the sky. Plus, the line "I am the black in the book, the letters on the pages that you memorize" makes me think about how God is present in the Bible. This is just the way I look at it though; it's what really connects with me. If it does with you too, then awesome. And if it doesn't, awesome all the same. I believe you try to enjoy the music the most you can. So totally disregard this if it doesn't make the song more enjoyable to you. Just my opninion. :)

General CommentGreat Song! honestly i believe (like many others on here that the song can mean many things to different poeple, a song is interpreted by the listener) I think Adam is personally trying to capture a strangely, fascinating way of how God is in the many things in the world we view. For instance "Im am the black in the book (the bible), the letters on the pages that you memorize". God is omnipresent, everywhere is especially in the beauty of nature and simple everyday things that make us smile and able to deal with life...

General CommentI believe that is talking about a "phase" of love like any where that this girl goes he'll be there with her in spirit because they're so in love and this song is a way of reminding her that no matter what he will always be right there next to her in her heart and soul

this has got to be some of the sweetest music in the whole wide world

like wow this is like saying I Love You in a very sweet way

    Owl City...hats off to you.

General CommentThe way the song opens comparing himself to the colors that is seen all around his girl makes me think that they like each other so much that they see each other in everything. In just walking around they see each other even in the simplest of things.

"If you cut me I suppose I would bleed, the color of the evening stars." Admitting to being human and then shrugging it off and once again comparing himself to the stars, they see each other in everything.

this song is so clever. it's about wanting to being near to someone so much that you become their surroundings.

My InterpretationI think the point of the song is to address the fact that everything in the universe has an interconnected "oneness" about it, and since Adam believes in the Christian God as the creator of everything, I imagine he is explaining how God, every elementary particle and us as humans are apart of and make up everything in the universe.

I imagine that what he refers to as the "technicolor phase" could be as such: A state of perception; human; alive; able to experience, feel, memorize and recall.

    In this case:
technicolor - beautifully intricate and perceivable
phase - a temporary period of time where we as humans are able to perceive this world, unknowing exactly of what will come after departure
