One year, nine months and eight days.
Ive waited for more than I have to say.
Time waits for no man, yet it waits for you.

Light up my life...
Sing when it hurts,
And it's over.
(Take the pain away)
Sing when it hurts,
And it'd over.
(Take the pain away)

Well, I'm scared of forgetting it all,
And holding out for a little more.
You burn leaves,
Anything they want, you do.
We're chasing heights that we'll never reach.
In love with something that will never be.
I'm sinking, first in line to keep amused.
Amused.

Light up my life...
Sing when it hurts,
And it's over.
(Take the pain away)
Sing when it hurts,
And it's over.
(Take the pain away)
Sing when it hurts,
And it's over.
(Take the pain away)

We're coming home, when it's over.

I can't shake these saftey numbers and, wasting all your promises on me.
To enjoy a simple life.

Sing when it hurts,
And it's over.
(Take the pain away)
Sing when it hurts,
And it's over.
(Take the pain away)
Sing when it hurts,
And it's over.
(Take the pain away)

We're coming home when it's over...

General CommentOne year nine months and eighty days
I’ve waited for more than I hoped to say
Time waits for no man yet it waits for you
    For you…light up my life
Sing when it hurts then it’s over and take the pain away
I’m scared of forgetting it all
And holding out for a little more
You believe anything they want you to
We’re chasing heights that we’ll never reach
In love with something we’ll never be
I’m sinking first in line to keep amused
    Amused…light up my life
I can’t shake these safety numbers
Wasting all your promises on me
    To enjoy a simple life

My InterpretationFYI: xDizzyx's lyrics are correct. :)

So here's my interpretation of the lyrics - I think it's about being a musician, in general. You know... writing and performing music to "take the pain away." Also, the bridge - I think it means the persona doesn't want to believe the "safety numbers" (statistics to prove album sales maybe or reassurance that they're a great band) or to "wait on those empty promises" (of fame, fortune), just so they can live the life they've been hoping for. Another clue are the lines "We're chasing heights that we'll never reach.
In love with something we'll never be" - maybe refers to achieving success in the music industry, the debate between going signed or indie. The first paragraph in its entirety, to me, means waiting for a long time for getting successful in the music industry, for a band of such tremendous talent, yet other bands and singers that basically aren't as talented get all the special attention and privileges.

I don't know, maybe I'm over-analysing? Haha! But yeah this is what this song means to me. :)
