We used to drive all night and listen to the radio
Push the front seats up and make the back our bedroom
We'd stay here all night long, be strong
forget the world we're living in

Mother, I know you know
I'm having a good time
I'm sleeping so little
But I'm living the good life
No need to worry
Got a place to lay my head down
No need to worry
I got a place to sleep

I need somebody to rely on
And you weren't that for me
And you'll never be that for me
Yeah, you'll never be that for me
Yeah, you'll never be

I count down the steps to your apartment
'Cause I'm eager to know
If you're even at home
And I called you on the drive home
But you weren't alone

Mother, I know you know
I'm having a good time
I'm sleeping so little
But I'm living a good life
No need to worry
Got a place to lay my head down
No need to worry
I got a place to sleep

I need somebody to rely on
And you weren't that for me
And you'll never be that for me

I love you, but I'm not sure
That I really want to touch you
But I will only if you ask me to
Yeah, you'll never be that for me
Yeah, you'll never be that for me

I need somebody to rely on
And you weren't that for me
And you'll never be that for me

I need somebody to rely on
And you weren't that for me
And you'll never be that for me
Yeah, you'll never be that for me

    General Commentno one has commented?!
    awesome song
and i think its just refering to having a good time and finding someone who you can rely on as a friend. or a loved one.
btw the third line in the first verse/paragraph, it should be we're, not were.

General Comment@stewie840: That's because as I am writing this comment, only a few people have even heard this song.. It's on the Underdog Alma Mater album, which is to be released a week from now (as of time of writing).

Good song though, not the best in the album, but still good..

General Commenti think it's about his mom...
and how she wasn't there for him growing up, and now she wants to be a part of his life.

but he's not sure if he wants her to be, even though he loves her.

    General CommentI agree with Nikki.

I mean it says mother like in this first line
    Mother, I know you know
    I'm having a good time
    I'm sleeping so little
But I'm living the good life
    No need to worry
Got a place to lay my head down
    No need to worry
I got a place to sleep

It makes sense he loves his mother but she was never there for him.

@nikki: i agree, it does make sense if it was about his mother.

General Commentits about calebs life, he said it in a video
if any one read their Alternative Press spread he talked about how he left his house at 16 and lived in his car.

General Commentso okay, i guess it is about his mom.
& i see that now, but with the whole "we made the back our bedroom" and "i'm not sure that i really want to touch you but i will only if you ask me to" thing i saw it as being about a guy (or girl). like, he's someone who you have so much fun with and love the hell out of, but he's just not someone you can 100% count on.. and that's why it wouldn't work.

General CommentI think most of the song is about his mom.
At first I thought it was about a girl, because of the 'made the back our bedroom part' but it makes sense if you think of it as living in a car, and not banging in a car.

And then I think this part:

I love you, but I'm not sure
That I really want to touch you
But I will only if you ask me to
Yeah, you'll never be that for me
Yeah, you'll never be that for me

He could now be talking about a girl, and referring to how he was used to how his mother was with him, and he's scared to get close to a girl because of that.

    But yeah. just guessing.
