"Neighbors" as written by and Thomas Decarlo/burton Callaway....
Now my neighbor likes where I stay
But doesn't, know, the price that I pay
My neighbor! My neighbor! My neighbor!
Wants what he sees
My neighbor! My neighbor! My neighbor!
Thinks he wants to be me
But he'll never be

From out my window, seems just fine
But in his mind, again his world is far from kind
So I invited him over, could this make a new friend
But once I got to know ya, wish I never let you in

Now my neighbor likes my clothes
But hadn't seen me with my scars exposed
My neighbor! My neighbor! My neighbor!
Oh dissatisfied
My neighbor! My neighbor's, behavior
Is unjustified
I'm sick and tired

I don't know, if he lives all alone
But if you're scared of the darkness best leave the lights on
I had a talk with my neighbor
Say it simple and plain
I guess, he understood me
He never came back again

Now my neighbor, likes my car
But no matter where you go, there you are

    General CommentHere's what I'm hearing:

Now my neighbor likes where I stay,
but doesn't know the price that I pay
    My neighbor
    My neighbor
My neighbor wants what he sees.
    My neighbor
    My neighbor
My neighbor thinks he wants to be me,
    but he'll never be.

    From out my window,
    seems just fine,
    but in his mind
blinded where the sun don't shine.
    So I invited him over.
So good to make a new friend,
but once I got to know ya,
wish I never let you in.

Now my neighbor likes my clothes,
but hadn't seen me with my scars exposed.
    My neighbor
    My neighbor
    My neighbor...ohhh dissatisfied.
    My neighbor
    My neighbor's behavior
    is unjustified.
    I'm sick and tired.

I don't know if he lives all alone.
If you're scared of the darkness,
    best leave the lights on.
I had a talk with my neighbor.
    Got a temper, insane.
    I guess he understood me
    He never came back again.

Now my neighbor likes my car,
but no matter where you go there you are.

General Commentyeah the second version is more correct. but i think he says " i had a tlk with my neighbor, very simple in vain" i dunno though kind of awkward in context..newa,.this is such a great concept for a song, esp how cee-lo explores this subject from such novel angles

General CommentHere are the Lyrics Directly from the Gnarls website...

he's standing where the sun don't shine.

    "so I invited him over
HOPING to make a new friend."

"I had a talk with my neighbor.
    made it Simple and plain."

"if you're scared of the darkness just leave the lights on."

I think that this is about realizing that you are who you are no matter what. Even with all the material things in the world you still have to realize true happiness is obtained when you love yourself. I think that Gnarles has had a struggle that has freed him and allowed him to reach his full potential. So thats why he has scars. Like a testimony in a way.

The reason the Neighbor wont ever be him is because he lust after world things. Instead of oneness.
