Father drove a steamroller
Momma was a crossing guard.
She got rolled when he got steamed
And I got left in charge
Living in a little town with my pedigree in charge
I chopped down a weakened willow tree
And built this party barge

Ports of call, dayglo bait
Why not see a legend while it's still being made?
Think it's kind of squirrelly when you're sleeping in the park
Jam too far propagating in the night
My colleagues and associates have kicked out all the lights
Like I said they say, nothing stops a party barge

"This is lake directory, calling party barge.
I'm on the phone with pump control, they say you are at large
Send us your coordinates, we'll send a Saint Bernard"
Think it's kind of squirrelly when you're sleeping in the park
Chicken fried pigeon in a sunny jane sauce
Satan's jeweled laughter has your wife in its claws
Like I said they say, nothing stops a party barge

"Send us your coordinates, I'll send a Saint Bernard.
Send us your coordinates, I'll send a Saint Bernard.
Send us your coordinates, I'll send a Saint Bernard.
This is lake directory, calling party barge."

important correction. Should be "weaping willow tree." That is what makes it such a good like. He constructed a "party" barge out of a weaping willow.

I gotta think this song is about him becoming a party barge to block out the pain. Sort of like a Frank the Tank character.

Also, I think it might be "things get kind of squirrelly..."

Going on tour? The Jews went out on their first tour between Tanglewood and this album. Maybe this song is about what it's like to be on tour. Partying all the time and being rescued by St. Bernards.

I think this song is just about the chaos of partying in general!!!

Lyrics corrections: "things get kind of squirrelly when you're sleeping in the park" Also: "satan's jeweled lobster has your wife in its claws"

I really like the theory about it being life on tour!

The line about sleeping in the park and "Chicken fried pigeon" makes me think this song is about a bunch of bums partying on this makeshift raft. I'm sure it's not really about that at all, but it pleases my mind.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
